[DRAFT] Time Zone Amendment
#11

Although I am certainly in favour of this amendment, I also think we can as a region be more thorough in how we implement a uniform regional timezone. For example, for all matters where a time is provided (whether it be an election or a vote), we can provide a link to the UTC time or a countdown clock.

I know plenty of people live in the EST/EDT time zone, but:

A. That could act as a "secondary" time zone and:
B. It makes more sense to have UTC as the main time zone as it makes it far far easier for anyone else living anywhere else in the world to know when something is happening. I know at least 4 or 5 people on the internet in a reasonably large English community (other languages are banned though sometimes discussions happen in other languages) which come from Singapore, China and the Philippines, and for a community as large as the south pacific I imagine that number is quite a bit larger.

Plus, it makes it very confusing to have a main timezone with daylight saving time, especially considering that daylight saving time changes on different days around the world.

PS: I may be biased in that I live in the UK

Can we bring that back?

We might want to change this into a resolution too, as an informal announcement that we're agreeing to use UTC now on (though I doubt that will help too much in the long run)

Why is a standardized time zone necessary?

It isn't. Building a culture of using a standard way of talking about time is kinda useful, however, and considerably less discriminatory.

As I have said previously, the only official time zone I will accept for TSP is actual South Pacific time: Marquesas Islands Time, UTC-9:30.

Inconvenient for just about everybody!

Obviously the official regional time should be that of the ultimate South Pacific country: Peru! As I have said repeatedly, Peru is located in the southern hemisphere along the Pacific Ocean, it has coconuts, llamas and obviously has plenty of lampshades. This is the only solution that makes sense.

I propose we use UTC + 0:27. Just because.
