Purple Hyacinth for Chair of the Assembly!

Flowers probably don't make the strongest chairs, and can't exactly run fast, either... but I'm still running for Chair!

I don't have any grand ambitions. I plan to mostly do things as past Chairs have done.

I'll check the forums often and put things to vote quickly. I'll also make sure to do things like archiving discussion and voting threads, posting results, updating the MATT-DUCK Law Archive, etc., in a timely manner. I'll also make graphs of the results of votes. I will also make sure point out any errors in laws before putting them to vote. I will also read through all of the laws to find any typos that I will fix with discretionary powers.

I will continue the practice of pinging legislators on Discord as well as in a dispatch (and of course, stating information about the laws in the messages). I will update the legislator roster as needed, and do legislator checks and States of the Assembly on time.

When I put my focus in something, I can be pretty organized and detail oriented. I believe I can use those abilities to be a good Chair!

I know that I'm new and probably don't know everything about how being Chair works. However, I'm willing to compensate for that by looking through old threads for how previous Chairs have done things and asking questions, and of course, putting effort and time into my work in general. I'll also be open to suggestions from others on things that I can do differently.

One new thing I plan is to do personally welcome new legislators by DMing them on Discord or via telegram if they don't have Discord. I will refer them to to resources like the AMP and answer any questions that they may have.

As Chair, would you commit to maintaining outward neutrality on regional issues?

Yes. I should have mentioned this in my campaign but I plan to remain neutral and always abstain in votes, should I become Chair. I think it's important that someone whose job is, in a way, to run the Assembly, shouldn't appear to be letting their personal opinions get in the way of Chair duties.

Chair is probably the most taxing job in TSP, and you're a newer player - how confident are you that you can handle all the work it takes to be a competent Chair?

What do you see as a strength in each of your opponents?
Midwesterner. Political nerd. Chipotle enthusiast.
Minister of Culture of the South Pacific // Former Prime Minister

With online school, I do have more time than regular school. I'd say I'm 80% confident I'd have the time for it. If elected, I'll probably take less time or resign from my other roles in NS to make more time for Chair stuff.

For each of my opponents' strengths:
Belschaft - He's very, very experienced in being Chair, and obviously knows what he's doing. If elected, I would not see him neglecting any of his duties.

Swifty - He hasn't published his campaign yet, so perhaps I'm not getting a full picture (I'll update my response when he does post his campaign thread). From what I have seen of him, I think he'd be quite active. Additionally, he's seems enthusiastic about being Chair.

Whole India - Again, no campaign thread yet, but from what he's done in the Assembly, I feel like he has a certain drive to get things done.

What is your view of Belschaft's proposed 'The India Act'? Is it ever OK to assume you are above others and to bully other Legislators into doing what you want them to do? What will you do to take action should a bullying issue of this nature recur in the future and how will you ensure the chances of a repeat are minimal?

Regardless of Belschaft's intentions, "The India Act" was not okay and definitely could be received as bullying/mocking. A newer legislator even voiced that they felt intimidated by it. I don't think it's ever okay to think you're above others or bully anyone into what you want them to do. It would threaten our democracy if people just went around and intimidated each other.

As the Chair is primarily responsible for moderation of the Assembly's areas, if someone was acting in an inappropriate way, I would give a warning and lock the thread. I would then talk with the moderators to see what they think and if any further action should be taken. I think a swift and firm response would discourage anyone from breaking the rules, especially if mods are involved.

Sorry for the double post, but it's been a couple of days since the last post and I have some things to add. I said here that I said I wanted to update this response once Swifty and Whole India released their campaigns, and now that they have, here’s my addition:

Swifty - He also talks about his experience in OWL and uses it to show that he could be a reliable Chair. He also has many plans, with many promises of transparency and improved communications. I think his promises are great! He has shown that he is eager to do well. In fact, I would consider stealing borrowing a few of his ideas...

Whole India - He is willing to admit his past mistakes, and his inexperience. He also wants to be welcoming to new legislators, and has established a strong stance against things like "The India Act".

The next thing I’d like to say is why I believe I’d be a better Chair than both of them. I want to preface this by saying that I have no ill-will towards either of them--they are both acting in good faith. However, I feel that neither have the knowledge of laws necessary to be Chair. Whole India has proposed blatantly illegal laws (https://tspforums.xyz/thread-8477-post-2...#pid204796 and https://tspforums.xyz/thread-8574-post-2...#pid205235), and pushed back on suggestions by many very experienced legislators. He says he is “eager to learn” in his campaign, despite conduct that seems to suggest otherwise. Swifty has shown that he isn’t familiar with the laws, either. Near the start of these elections, Swifty, in #legislators-lounge, seemed to think that nominations for Chair elections needed to be seconded; just today, also in #legislators-lounge, he seemed unsure if legislators needed to vote on at least half or two-thirds of laws to maintain legislator status (something one needs to know as Chair!). While his many plans for better communication are good, they are only the icing on top--what about the cake itself? Conversely, I have read through every law, and while I can’t promise that I have memorized every word, I would know the important facts. All three of us only became legislators in July, so any person would be doubtful about our knowledge of laws and the workings of the Assembly. I don't want to pretend I'm as experienced as someone like Belschaft, and I know that I have so much to learn. Both of my opponents are fine people and very eager to be Chair, and I don't want to seem like I'm attacking them personally, but I feel they would be best suited to run in a future election with more experience.

Regarding the second thing, I just got 2 things jumbled up in my head and wasn't sure so I just put both of them but said I wasn't sure which one it was so that someone could fact check me. But know that I know for sure, I won't forget.
