Moderation Statement on the Ban of Whole India
#1

One of the most important parts of moderator duty, and in our Community Standards, is making sure that our community is an environment that people want to play in. Letting one player ruin the game for others goes against that, and so, for the following reasons:

Commencing immediately, Whole India will be banned from the forum, Discord servers, and gameside of TSP indefinitely, with possibility of review after one year.

Whole India has previously had a pattern bordering on harassment, pestering people for hours when they tell him “no”. The most recent example of this is in MoRA - Seraph, the Minister at the time, asked Whole India to tone it down a bit as their ideas were often impractical. Whole India was subsequently suspended from the MoRA, and since then has continually ignored the boundaries of the ministers, demanding to be let back in and producing court cases accusing the MoRA of corruption (and ironically fascism) when not allowed back. On its own this may not be significant enough to warrant a ban, but the recent escalation has contributed to this decision.

Recently, Whole India went on a crusade of attempting to punish people for swearing, and encouraging nationalism. On its own, under the assumption that nationalism means regionalism, this might have been okay. However, Whole India’s rhetoric here had alarming similarities to fascist rhetoric: the notion of a once-pure nation that has been corrupted by people choosing self-expression, the focus on discipline over freedom of speech, the insistence that “nationalism cures depression”.

(Speaking as Nakari here: Whole India’s usage of ancient Rome as a “cultured society without profanity” rung alarm bells for me particularly - Rome is often used by fascists and racial supremacist traditionalists as an example of a well-disciplined society, and as justification for fascism. This image of Rome is unrealistic and based on a whitewashed version of history. If you see similar rhetoric - bear this in mind, and always examine the sources.)

We were made aware of comments Whole India had made about supporting parts of Hitler’s agenda against communists and atheists. This prompted another look at Whole India’s past. Just four months ago, in Lasagna, Whole India openly identified as a Nazi and proclaimed support for Hitler, and for ethnic cleansing of communists. He says he has changed since then, but his recent behaviour leads us to believe he has not changed as much as he thinks, and his general pattern of behaviour suggests he is unwilling to listen to criticism and genuinely change.

Lastly - we recognise that Whole India is very young and in a country with a growing nationalist movement that has links to fascism. Our community has no place for outward fascism, but hateful far-right groups often recruit in subtle ways online, subliminally instilling fascist sentiments. We encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with extremist dogwhistles so that you don’t unintentionally become a mouthpiece for harmful rhetoric. While none of the mod team can speak specifically to the situation in India,
there are some useful resources for understanding the subtle forms alt-right fascism can take in the UK and US.

I would like to thank the moderators for taking appropriate and sensible action in this matter, protecting the community from cryptofascism, and preventing members of the community from being exposed to and potentially radicalized by such extremist beliefs. Both IC and OOC, the South Pacific has freedom of speech, but that comes with sensible limitations and such freedom does not entail freedom from consequences.

I am glad to see that this decadent semi-fascist has been served justice.

He got what he deserved. Support of Nazism and Fascism in general is unacceptable. Justice is served today.

A little nationalism can boost country morale. Too much can create exclusive echo chambers.

Good riddance.
