Welcome to the Southern Gate Festival – the major cultural event of Pacifica, in which we all will determine, who can create the best films, who has the best series and who is leaving everyone in awe with their music.

The Southern Gate Festival is a cultural event taking place in Südtor, GI-Land, sponsored mainly by the Gianlucian government, namely the Ministry of Culture, the audio streaming service Audit and the video streaming service Risa. Since 1986 it has awarded the best Gianlucian pieces of media on an annual basis, but as of this year everything opens up and welcomes the world to share their creative works so they earn the international respect and recognition they deserve.

The festival consists of two competitions: The Film Festival and a Song Contest called “Pacivision”.

Film Festival (“The Golden Gates”)

During the film festival the best films and series of Pacifica will be awarded “The Golden Gates” in the categories “Best Film”, “Best Series”, “Best Advertisement” and “Best Director”. Each trophy is endowed to One Million Gianlucian Tacks (1 Tack = 1 Euro IRL). Furthermore each film or series, which has won at least one trophy will be added to the films and series Risa offers in its international line-up.

Each nation may submit one film and/or one series. One more film or series may be submitted, if it is a co-production between two countries without the same roleplayer behind it!
This means, you can submit three entries at max (1 film + 1 series + 1 co-production with another roleplayer, which counts as a co-produced entry for both roleplayers)!

After a submission period of 14 days and a post of me, which compiles all submissions, a voting period of 7 days in the instant-runoff voting system will commence. Everyone (including nations, who have not submitted anything) may rank all or any submissions (except of their own) in the following categories:

Best Advertisement (Series) (based on the featured art)
Best Director (Film) (based on the synopsis)
Best Director (Series) (based on the synopsis)

During the voting period, we will have some “red carpet roleplay”, where interviewers, directors, actors and other famous attendees will come together. On the voting period follows the award ceremony, where each winner will also receive their time to shine.
Please message me, if you want to hold a laudatory speech in one of the categories.

One last thing: Some of us have multiple nations. While you may submit entries with all of your nations, please still be fair enough to the others and don’t vote with all of your nations and don’t vote for any of your nations. If you don’t follow this rule, I will allow myself to not consider any votes by “2nd Tier nations”.

Pacivision – This is a music show broadcasted to millions of households all around Pacifica. Nations submit a song and a performance and the others judge their submissions. Every independent nation may participate in the contest and submit an entry via the form below. There are three different kinds of entries, you may submit:

A) Submit an IRL Song
B) Submit an Instrumental and write lyrics and a performance for it
C) Submit a totally original piece of music

All entries need to follow certain rules:

1) All entries may not exceed five minutes in length.
2) The artist’s name has to be changed to an IC name.
3) If the text of a submission is in another language than Austral, a translation has to be provided. If the text contains IRL references, these have to be changed, so they fit into the Pacifica-canon.
4) When submitting a song of category A or C, a live performance is preferred but not needed, as you can write up an own performance yourself. Banned from submission are all Eurovision songs from 2020 and 2021, as well as songs from the Billboard Hot 100 of 2020.
5) You may not submit winning songs of former editions of Pacivision, nor songs an active nation (= on the map) has formerly sent to Pacivision, nor songs an inactive nation (= not on the map anymore) has formerly sent to Pacivision in the last five years. Sending a song of an artist, another nation has used already in former editions of Pacivision may only happen with their consent.

The submission period will last for 7 days. Please submit your entries via DM on the forum or, preferably, on Discord. I will compile everything, decide on a running-order and write the Pacivision-Show in two parts. Between the two parts will be a few days, in which you will be able to roleplay the Green Room a bit or share stories of your artist(s) with us. After the second show-post, the voting period, which will span another 7 days, will start. Here all participants rank their 10 favourite entries awarding them 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 12 points. If you are participating with two or even more nations, you may not award the top 3 positions (8, 10 and 12 points) to any of your other participating nations!
Furthermore all participants will, like during the film festival, rank any or all submissions (except of your own), in the following categories for instant-runoff voting:

For these votes, please only let your main nation/main participant vote.
The Top 10 of each category will receive additional points according to the 1-12-scale. This works as our “jury vote”.
When the winner is announced, they will be able to hold a victory speech. Also the winner will be the host country for the next Pacivision, which will be held during the Southern Gate Festival next year.

Synopsis: Imsicht follows current events and starts with short clips and excrepts of the event before the intro. After the intro, an explanation immersed in the history of the event and what caused it follows, along with explanations of it's future impacts and consequences of the event, etc., the core part of Imsicht. The explanations are always cut into bits with interviews from the people who are significant to the event, interviews with relevant professors about the event, on-site interview with newscasters at the event itself, etc. which would be relevant to the episode.

Additional Information:

¹Imsicht is still in production and is still broadcast as of date of submission, meaning that new episodes are still being produced. However, Imsicht currently has 32 episodes.

Imsicht is broadcast in Besernian, however subtitles are avaliable for every major language in Besern, including Austral.
The top sentence translates to "Stories that impact Besern, North Cordilia and the world".
The main reference for this show is a show in real life named "Insight", a current affairs programme by Mediacorp. There are slight modifications to the IC show.

Laura has remained in the Police and has rapidly climbed the career ladder while Bettu now gambles and sells drugs in exclusive clubs in the Sedunnic capital. One day an attractive woman (Lyes Timienn) approaches him and introduces herself as Vara Tossherr, heiress to an ancient global shipping company. She wants him to investigate a 300 years old murder case, where an ancestor of hers is accused by another wealthy family, Javnallu, of having murdered an ancestor of theirs. They served together on the same ship, and during a battle against pirates it is believed Captain Javnallu was killed by his lieutenant Tossherr. The two families have been in a feud since.

As Bettu starts looking through old archives, he starts seeing his former wife mysteriously around more and more. In fact, Laura is on a mission of her own, investigating corruption within the state, and the tracks lead to the wealthy shipping families. It's soon evident to them that they are looking for the same things, but the question is: who is loyal to whom? And what relevance could such an old cold case have to the matters of the state?

because the response to this festival has been a bit lacking and I assume, this could have something to do with people having been busy the last week or two, I'm gonna push the submission due dates back for another 7 days.

Additional Information: The first and only animated feature in The Southern Gate Festival, and the 8th movie made by RedSky Studios, a game developer. A 2D manually drawn animated feature using simple watercolor. Shown in the festival is the subtitled version, the poster is austral.
