SALLODESIAN MILITARY BASE ANNOUNCED
Sallodesian Secretary of Defence, General Jaco Pretorius.
The government has agreed to allow the Sallodesian military to open a new overseas base near the city of Varana in Cinis. The negotiation involved both the Livana Ministry of Defence and the Sallodesia Department of Defence, which will also involve military engineers and experts from Myria. The 114 km2 area, formerly an abandoned fishing port, will be refurbished to allow the Sallodesian military to anchor its new Aircraft Carrier group, and accommodate thousands of Sallodesian personnel. The construction of the base will be primarily the responsibility of Livanan contractors, which according to the Minister for Defence, Ret. Gen. Hon. Jeremy Cage, will further the security of the Mediterranean region as a whole. The negotiation also involved discussion on food supply which will be accommodated by Livana suppliers, presenting a new economic opportunity for domestic companies and local businesses in Cinis. The Governor of Cinis, Res. Jonathan Wilde has shown his approval of the plan but requests further elaboration from the government on possible impacts on local residents.
Concerns were raised by representatives of the Freedom Faction regarding the base's approval by the government, especially on the ground of neutrality. Hon. Robert Jacey, Chief Whip of the Freedom Faction stated in today's session in parliament that " ... this (Sallodesian Base Approval) will set Livana on a dangerous precedent. To allow foreign military presence on our soil is to allow their enemies to bomb us." The Conservatives also showed disappointment. While the Green Party demands research to be conducted on the environmental and social problems the base would present. Reacting to these protests, PM Alston declared that this initiative would further cement Livana's relevance on the global stage, and with the backing of such an admirable military force as that of Sallodesia, provide protection and stability for Livana in particular, and the region.

PEOPLE'S VOICE: REMEMBERING THE PAST IN THE TWENTY FIRST CENTURY
Marcus Valian has been a history teacher for 40 years in Arcana 12th State Junior Highschool. Throughout his career, he has seen Livana change; from a nation gripped by dictatorship and reeling from civil wars to a burgeoning society of the modern era. Speaking to us on a beautiful Sunday Morning in Arcana's historic city square, he expressed concerns that young Livanans today have little to no respect for history. "I had a student once asking me why he need to learn history. It is usual of course for history teachers, any teachers, in fact, to get questions like that. But he also said that he wouldn't need history in his career, at least as much as other subjects.," said the 61 years old. He then proceed to tell us that students, in general, have lower scores in history subjects today, compared to previous generations. He also remarked on the numerous humiliating session with prominent people, politicians and celebrities, that failed to comprehend historical matters in live interviews, especially the recent interview of Freedom Faction MP for Arcana, Hon. Terence Grant, whom erroneously stated a quote from Colonel Tarsis mistaking it as Jeremy Clinton's.
"I didn't say that the students are to blame. Our teaching method may have played a significant role in the declining apprehension of history too," said Mr Valian. He then elaborates on the dangers that society would face if they failed to apprehend and appreciate their historical background. "It's just the same as your daily life, really. You made mistakes in the past, and that mistakes will keep on reminding you to be better and to avoid a similar event to ever happening again. Today, there are many Tarsis sympathizers and anarchist supporters, all of whom I believe have forgotten Livana's darker years. If they paid attention more in the classrooms, they would have learnt about Tarsis' murders of political opponents, FF's rapes and tortures in the countryside, and what anarchy had brought to our society in the 50s. Should we forget our past and failed to apprehend history, I fear that we will be forced to repeat it in the future."
