WS for MoD: HEY, IT'S FREDDDDD!
#1

Also Electric Boogaloo. There, I said it.

Anyway thanks to something Tisha said here's a rough summary of my term as PM.

HEY, IT'S WS!!!! I have an idea. It’s a really good one and I’m not gonna let anyone tell me otherwise because that isn’t how this works.

Actually, that’s a lie. It’s totally not in character for me to not accept feedback, but Nakari and Roavin and I were talking about this and it seemed like a good enough idea to base a campaign around, so we’re gonna run with it. It’s time we talked about civilian service in the military, and what YOU can do, even as someone who’s not always available at updates, to defend innocent regions from attack and take them back from raiders. In some circles they call this conscription. Tounge

About me, the past term, and looking forward

Serving TSP as Prime Minister has been the honor of my career. But there’s no doubt, and I think some of you saw it too, that at times I felt (and probably looked) like a fish out of water. While I’m very good at managing people, politics in this game is not my forte. I’m aggressive, fiercely loyal, emotionally invested, and often uncompromising in my beliefs. While those are good traits to have, I found that at times they got in the way of me being good at the things I know I do best: namely, being a fun and friendly face who is good at managing people and being active in the community on the ground. So I've decided to go back to something that worked: I'd like to ask for your vote to be Minister of Defense again.

The current state of defending, and how TSP can change that

Unless you live under a rock, you’re probably aware that R/D is not terribly active at the moment. Updates are nearly always devoid of activity, and even when raiders are tagging, they often give up quite early or take a very long time between moves. This isn’t the most exciting or marketable way to appeal to prospective new soldiers, so instead, I believe fully that the next MoD should focus on strengthening our military reserves.

What we’re hurting for isn’t day-to-day updaters, but large numbers of civilians and non-updaters that can be called upon in the event of extraordinarily large raids or liberation attempts. TSP is in a unique place to provide this type of updater - as a feeder we have a large quantity of WAs that simply sit around and gather endorsements. While many will be hesitant to give up their endorsements, I expect many will be willing to answer the call of duty and will know that endorsements aren’t particularly hard to come by in TSP.

The plan

Basically, my current strategy is to begin with all those who have passed a security check for any reason. That group consists mainly of Legislators. Any Legislator who is not also a member of the Coral Guard, CRS, or some other institution that requires them to be WA-locked will be “drafted” into an SPSF reserve of sorts. This will probably fall under the umbrella of the Tidal Force. However, they won’t be pinged for regular Tidal Force ops: rather, when there is a large operation such as a liberation where we require greater-than-normal numbers, this group will be activated.

As Minister of Defense, Phoenix ran a similar program to great success. The goal of this program is to develop that idea into something sustainable and officially under the arm of the SPSF. Civilian outreach and involvement is critical, and Phoenix did an outstanding job with that, but it wasn’t sustainable since it was so dependent on her. The long-term goal here is creating a sustainable reserve force managed by an entity, rather than an individual as an individual.

Basically, this is all an elaborate way for me to say I’m gonna bother Legislators in Discord, DM loads of random folks, and make a big f****** deal about needing liberators on the RMB every time there’s a major operation and we need a lot of people. Because it's a strategy that works.

Miscellaneous things.

MoD HumanSanity has done a tremendous job with record-keeping: in just a few short months he and Luca managed what I never did - creating a working and up-to-date records apparatus. Much applause deserved there.

The Liberty Gala is coming up and I'm thinking about submitting a song for DefenderVision - ideas appreciated on that front Tounge

Likewise, get ready for the Defender Awards! Those will happen with TLG and I'm looking for a strong SPSF showing.

If I have time this term, I'm going to work on updating some of the training guides, especially for those beyond that of a Soldier. While training is usually rather individualized, I do want to work on getting a generalized officer training guide at least out at some point.

The bottom line

This campaign, and this term, are going to be very different from my previous terms. I have a Real Job (™) that requires me to go into real classrooms now. I just moved back overseas. I can’t update as much as I used to due to my work schedule. What I can do, though, and what I’ve shown I can do from past terms, is generate activity and excitement about defending, and the SPSF needs a leader who can boost recruitment and promote a culture of defending in the region as a whole. My term as Prime Minister more or less confirmed to me that I’m much better as a military leader than a true politician, and that I'm much more suited to leading a ministry rather than the entire government.

As always, I'm happy to answer any questions you might have. <3

CONFLICT OF INTEREST DISCLOSURE

I am currently Prime Minister of the Coalition, as well as a member of the General Corps and Legislator Committee. In addition to TSP, I hold citizenship in the Rejected Realms and Founderless, where I also serve as an administrator and director, and am a commander of the Founderless Rangers. In the past I was a citizen of 10000 Islands and held the rank of Constable in the Order of the Grey Wardens.

You have a leadership role in another region (Founderless). How will you:
a) Allocate your time between the two regions to ensure you are able to manage your responsibilities in each?
b) Resolve inevitable conflicts of interest between high levels of responsibility in each region?

This will likely answer both your points in one go, but I've made it clear from the get-go that TSP is my home and my first priority. Founderless is a project that I work on in collaboration with several others, and doesn't really have a government at the moment. We're recruiting and working on community-building, and I take part in some negotiations on their behalf, but in the event that interests conflict, I've made it clear to both regions that TSP is my home base.

As far as time-management specifically, my duties in Founderless at the moment are mainly administrative in nature and do not take much more than a few minutes at the time. I handle most maskings on Discord and the forum, and I do recruitment and other things were I can. Basically, Founderless is a passion project and a region where I put in time where I can.
