(Cure typos) An Amendment to the Elections act
#21

(12-11-2021, 03:37 PM)Kris Kringle Wrote: If anyone is interested, I welcome feedback on this thread and the accompanying voter form. You will notice that attempting to respond to the thread takes one directly to the voter form, sidestepping the issue of typos for all except private voters.

If that get's implemented I will withdraw this discussion as I think that method of voting is better.

Provided that no issues are encountered during this ongoing testing, I do intend to use forms to handle moving in future elections. This would entail a slight addition to the steps that the EC must take to set up voting, but I think the benefits would outweigh any drawbacks.

That's all fine and well, but it will not be a cure-all solution for typos in private ballots.

I’m sure we’re all smart enough to know that if we’re casting a manual vote we have to check for typos before submitting.

I'll feel sorry for the poor fellow who misspells Kuczynski as Kaczynski.

In Peru we don’t write candidate names, we mark with a cross the box showing their photo and any vote that doesn’t comply with that specific rule is deemed invalid.

You could set up a second form identical to the first that sends a PM to the Vote Collector account instead of posting in the thread. That way, it's always a form, just one is the "pulbic ballot" and the other is the "private ballot".

That is a good idea. I had forgotten that was even an option. I’ll look into it.

Im only just getting to this, so I didnt see the first round with only the PM vote. Im not sure how that was set up, but I assume the same as the full roster of votes is set up (currently). The only thing I could add there is, in your test, theres a "none" option. If the voter has decided to not vote, then the "Unknown" would suffice here.
