The former Christian Democrat chancellor of Germany Helmut Kohl died at age 87 in his house in Ludwigshafen.
He was between 1982 and 1998 chancellor of Germany (longest period of time of any chancellor) and gets called the "unification chancellor", as he made significant contributions to the unification process of the two Germanies.

I remember him (and remember being amused in German class when I learned what 'kohl' meant). How sad.
I don't know much about his career, but I believe he must have done a pretty good job, getting Germany as a unified country to where it has been these last two decades.

Not my country, but I think, it's interesting, if you haven't already heard of it: Otto Warmbier, this American, who was in a North Korean labor camp, died.

As part of a corruption and bribery trial, an arrest warrant was issued against former president Humala and his wife, concurring with the prosecutor's claim that they could try to flee the country.

That makes 3 out of 5 former presidents of Peru who are either under arrest or evading arrest.
