So, I have given up on Spanish (even though it's probably heaps easier than the one I'm about to do) and I'm gonna start learning Mandarin. At this stage I just want to be able to speak it or I'll stuff it up with Japanese. Luckily this shouldn't take heaps of time as a quarter of my school speaks Mandarin as their first language.

A quarter of your school is still way too little to learn Mandarin. Why Mandarin of all languages? Why not Cantonese? Or Wu?

Most spoken language in the world. Also, with China's economic growth as is, it's good to know Mandarin if you wanna pursue some related career.

When your school is 2500 people, you'll understand what 625 people means. And I know heaps of them. Any Cantonese is too hard to learn due to not many people speaking it or fluent in it. And then Wu just isn't spoken.
