Would you support states seceding from the Union? |
But like all things about jersey, they are inferior and covered in New York's garbage.

Anything north of 195 is New York. Anything south of 195 is PA. So, NJ as a whole, isnt really owned by its own residents...

Surely every state should have the right to secede, whether it is a good idea is a case by case basis?
As a Federal structure, I don't see how the fiction of no possible secession is possible. Though I appreciate Lincoln's arguments, I don't think that they stand up to real scrutiny.
If the United States allowed for any state to secede, ya'd quickly run into the quandary of free riders and privileged providers, and it'd inevitably lead to tragedy.

Not to mention secession would mean almost total loss of security forces (you really think the US would just give up billions in military equipment), collapse of the economy, inheritance of tens or hundreds of billions of US dollars in debt, etc. Basically all the arguments I used in the Scotland thread, substituting in [insert US state here].
In fact, you can generally use the same arguments for the secession of any well integrated nation within a union.
Perty much, but any US state that seceded wouldn't need a military.
