Wong's answers to mostly everything
#55

Ah Hong Kong. Another Asian Tiget. Alright gather around for a story.

Hong Kong was just like any other fishing village with people working hard wearing straw conical hats. But then the Brits came and sae Hong Kng as a strategic base for them to potentially monopolize the Middle East-India-China trade. So one war later (Called the Opium wars), Britain got Hong Kong not after getting the Chinese hooked on Opium. Immediately Hong Kong got built into a relevant port overnight. Of course due to its Southern Chinese location it was influenced by dialects, predominately Cantonese. Of course you associate Cantonese food with Wanton noodles, shark fin soup and dim sum (So glorious that you would be glad that the country with the world's most complicated language ha even more complicated dialects). Unlike most British colnies, it was mostly grateful for the democracy and technologies the West (But not the racism, obviously). Plus it was leaning more west tha east, so naationalism didn't do much except for a few riots and locals only political parties. After for so long in 1997, Hong Kong was handed to China for 99 years. Seen as a gigantic jewel of Capitalism, China gave Hong Kong UN representation and an autonomous government (Though now in risk as Chinese Political Dissidents in Hong Kong mysteriously). Hong Kong is famous for its night markets, variety of Cheap, Decently priced and expensive food options, quality suits at prices that will make you look like a boss without burning a hole in your pocket, Jade jewellery, world famous auction houses and great boxing clubs.

But there is a few bad things. Property prices there are mad. Majority of poor people live in 6 foot cages, a room barely big enough to fit a set of bunk beds, a cabinet and a 16 inch box tv, its hard to get a government apartment and if you get one it is about 100-200 square metres. Plus the government isn't really democratic (Beijing plucks out the Non-Pro Beijing canidates). Police brutality is 69/10 brutal (I felt it while protesting for rights there during the peak of the umbrella movement cause sold them their custom-ordered umbrellas). Chinese Ministry of Social Services goons can grab you in any moment.Do not forgot a
about the Chinese Triads (500,000 members. 100+ Countries, USD 50000000000 a year, different factions inside it, the World's largest criminal empire). If you are white or just a non- chinese looking foreigner, you might be called gweilio (Foreign devil in Cantonese). Be careful and have fun while tread carefully
