Chair Roavin responds to questions about his conduct

With just hours to go before the Coalition heads to the polls, Chair Roavin gave a speech before reporters at his campaign office, strongly defending his record as a Cabinet representative to Mr. Ever-Wandering Souls’ proscription case.

Minister of Military Affairs Somyrion had previously attacked the Chair for inactivity during internal Cabinet discussions and stalling the Cabinet’s response to what pundits have characterised as a damaging foreign affairs blunder.

In late August, Prime Minister Farengeto announced that Cabinet would be enacting proscriptions previously drafted by his predecessor’s administration. The Chair was Prime Minister at that time.

The proscriptions included members of Hydra, Lone Wolves United, and Mr. Ever-Wandering Souls, the Field Marshal Overseer of Terra Corps of The Black Hawks. The proscriptions were poorly received in the Gameplay community, with Mr. Souls mounting a strong public relations campaign against The South Pacific, with significant support from other members of the community.

The High Court sought clarification from Cabinet on the proscriptions. The Chair was assigned to advise on a reissuing of the proscriptions. In his address, the Chair admitted to having failed to do so in a timely manner.

‘On not getting the proscription reissue done: Yep. That's on me. We were talking to the court in a closed session afterwards, seeking clarification, but that's been done for a while now and I could (and should) have finished this up for the Cabinet already.’

The Chair also provided details on internal discussions within the Cabinet and the lines of communication between Cabinet Ministers. Minister Somyrion accused the Chair of purposely excluding Minister of Regional Affairs Islands of Unity from Cabinet meetings held in confidential Discord channels.

‘On not inviting IoU to the group DM: We already talked this over on Discord,’ Chair Roavin said, ‘There was a credible suspicion that IoU's Cabinet bid during the special election wasn't in good faith, but rather intended to steal logs and other confidential materials for espionage purposes.’

Chair Roavin is currently contesting the election for Minister of Military Affairs. He was elected Chair of the Assembly in July. His term of 4 months is scheduled to conclude in November. Should he be elected, the Chair will be vacated and the Coalition will once again head to the polls as early as the end of October.

The voting period opens on the 11th of October at 00:00 BST (23:00 UTC 10th of October). Voting will be closed three days later on the 14th of October at 00:00 BST (23:00 UTC 13th of October).
