Repeal of War Declarations
#61

Not sure why their opinions matter. I'm not even sure who "they" are. The Coalition against GGR was largely symbolic. None of our Nazi raids were done under its banner, as far as I'm aware. (We were doing Nazi raids before signing it, and nothing changed after.) It's never really come up in NS Gameplay. The document itself doesn't even mention who the signatories are. I've always seen it as a vestigial treaty nobody ever bothered thinking about, because it's easy to hate Nazis and what exactly do we lose by keeping it on the books?

The era of Nazi raids is over. There's no point in pretending that this treaty means anything to anybody. I doubt anybody here even had an opinion on it until its repeal came up.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

It's not that their "opinions" matter per se, it's doing due diligence to people we've had diplomatic relations with. We can't have our Assembly running around repealing things that we don't even know what they are.

In any case, this is enough for me to be in favor of repeal, unless we have more information regarding who this was with.

I voted against the repeal as the Coalition was formed by like minded regions as an expression of common intent and opposition to the far-right in NS, and the GGR in particular. It's a position I still hold to, and despite Unibot's insistence that the 'Nazi hunts' were counterproductive, the actual groups targeted in 2013 were all dealt serious damage and are now defunct. Other Nazi and far-right regions have been created since, but the ones we went after were destroyed - the reason why the war against GGR is now over is because GGR was driven into inactivity and irrelevance.

The Coalition itself achieved it's purpose in that the groups it targeted were destroyed - I doubt there's much desire to create a new one to go after the current set of far-right groups in NS, but I wasn't willing to vote for a repeal that ahistorically suggested that this was something that failed or that we regretted. I, like SB, was proud of our involvement at the time. I'd vote for a repeal that recognized the reason why the Coalition is now defunct.

On the contrary, the Right-Wing Rising organisation grew in strength during the Nazi Hunts. It was only after the Nazi Hunts ended that mobilization efforts among Nazis and Fascists declined.  Moreover, The GGR's population has been on the rebound since the decline of the Fascist Union (which had been presenting itself as an alternative to The GGR). Nazi Europa, likewise, has maintained a stable equilibrium post-2013 (the population of the NAZI EUROPE grew with the Nazi Hunts and the population has never declined since).

What we find is that the population of Nazis overall, when you look at a broader picture than just The GGR, maintained steady growth throughout 2012-13; the Nazi Hunts had been a period of expansionary growth. The increased attention and reception gave these communities more recruitment options and increased incentive and opportunities for mobilization.

Attacking communities has never been a suitable tactic for attacking the growth of Nazism on a systemic level. It hardly even works one-on-one, but broadly speaking improves the conditions on which hate communities can recruit underground. There has been recently a very small but measurable decline in Nazi population overall, but that was a very recent trend - demonstrating that long after the Nazi Hunts ended, populations of Nazis would return to their lower pre-2012 state. (*I also suspect the decline over this summer might reflect a general trend which affected basically everyone over 2014's summer - which had a notorious downturn. In which case, the picture these stats paint an even more depressing.*).

The sad thing is that this trend could easily be reversed by a new Neo-Anti-Nazi Hunt; The GGR is actually where most of the recent growth in Nazi communities has occurred. A return to 2013's politics could light that spark and reverse the downward trend we've seen over the past four-five months.

The proper response to Nazis is to defend and liberate against them and otherwise generally ignore them. Giving reception to them improves their recruitment prowess and mobilisation efforts, while threatening their regions, redistributes Nazi members into new, more organised hubs of political and civic activity.

Your suggestion that "the groups it targeted were destroyed" is absolutely false. With The Fascist Union on the decline, The GGR and Nazi Europa have been on the upswing and returning to their position of relative supremacy in the right-wing political dominion. You weren't "eradicating" anything, you were playing a game of wack-a-mole and you lost.

This seems to be a growing opinion here, do we have a motion/second for another repeal?

The last couple failed amendment were only decided by a vote or two. Maybe we should bring those back to a vote...
