| My Favorite Albums of 2014 |
Hello everyone, as the region's resident music junkie (even though I don't rock as hard as QD) I like sharing my favorite albums of the year with all of you.
So without further delay, I will start counting down my 10 favorite albums of the year: 10) Conor Oberst – Upside Down Mountain Genre: Folk This is the third solo album from ex Bright Eyes lead singer Conor Oberst. Oberst has been compared to Bob Dylan over his career, due to his song writing prowess as well as his, uh, unique voice. 9) Your Old Droog- Your Old Droog
Genre: Hip Hop This is the debut LP from NYC based rapper, Your Old Droog. What makes this release interesting is that earlier in the year, he released an EP of about 10 songs and was accused of being an alter ego of the great NYC rapper Nas. This album has a similar sound to Nas's great album Illmatic, and is one of the best surprises of the year. 8) Real Estate- Atlas
Genre: Indie Rock There have been a lot of great recent bands out of New Jersey, and this is one of the best. Just a really great, easy listening Indie Rock Record. I can not ever get the song "Talking Backwards" out of my head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgsdblVq8wo [Image: d9f36f89.jpeg]

7) Sivu- Something on High
Genre: Indie Rock Imo, this is the most 'beautiful' album of the year. The singing and guitars are simple, yet stunning. It's a joy to listen from front to back. 6) Single Mothers – Negative Qualities
Genre: Punk Rock In sharp contrast to the previous record, this is one of the most abrasive records of the year. Really good punk rock albums have become increasingly rare. 5) Schoolboy Q- Oxymoron
Genre: Hip Hop Schoolboy Q is the same rap group as the critically acclaimed rapper Kendrick Lamar. Q goes back and forth between outlining the struggles of growing up in the inner city and pure bravado. The beats are great and there is a lot of really interesting sampling on this record. 4) Ryan Adams – Ryan Adams
Genre: Folk The starting point with Ryan Adams is he is simply a prolific songwriter. He has written albums with multiple bands across multiple genres, and has an extensive collection of folk solo records. This album is Ryan's return to music after needing a break to deal with persistent vertigo symptoms. The record is said by many to be a return to greatness for Adams and I agree.
