Hi all - I'm new to Nationstates, but you guys seem to have a pretty interesting community here at TSP so I'm gonna run a game for you all and see if we can all have some fun! Admittedly this game is stolen from another site, but I have permission from the person who designed and ran it to run it here.
In Short, 8 people enter the arena. Each turn, you get 1 action: Attack, Defend, Scavenge. You have to gather whatever items you can to make yourself stronger, and kill all of the other opponents and be the last one standing.
Items are limited, so you're competing for resources against your opponents.
Do you have what it takes to be the last man standing?
Players may take 1 action per turn. They PM that action to the game master, who will update the game every 24 hours based on those actions.
Player Actions:
1) Attack. You may attack a character, dealing your attack damage to them.
2) Defend. You defend yourself, doubling your defense value for this turn. Or target another player, and add your defense value to theirs for this turn.
3) Scavenge. You attempt to grab some equipment from the equipment list. If multiple people attempt to grab the same item, only 1 will receive it (chosen randomly)
All actions are resolved at the same time. If a character takes combined damage more than their defense value on a single turn, they are killed and removed from the game.
The last player left alive (if any) wins the game.
Characters
All players will be assigned a character. This character will have a secret special ability that is not revealed until their death, but can have an effect on the game. Those in the Sponsors Lounge will be able to see every bodies abilities.
Arena Hazards:
The arena will be themed, and have hazards in them. These hazards and their order will be selected before the game starts, but kept secret. At the end of a phase, if the arena hazards have any effect on the game, it will be shared with the players. This hazard will affect the next phase.
Sponsors:
Before the game starts, people can sign up to be sponsors. They will be given 1 credit to spend. They may spend these credits to help players currently in the game.
The list of available items/bonuses that can be bought with credits will be posted in the Lounge but kept secret from the players.
Scavenge-able Equipment
Equipment may be scavenged during a players turn, but each item can only be owned by 1 player at a time. If multiple players attempt to scavenge the same piece of equipment on the same turn, one will be chosen (at random) to receive the item, and the other players end up with nothing.
When a player dies, his items become scavenge-able again.
Phases:
Phases will last 24 hours. You have 24 hours to PM your action for the day, and the Game Master write up will reflect all actions of all players, and then mention what (if any) the arena hazard for the next round is. The game will last as many phases as necessary, until only 1 person is left alive.
The actual equipment list of items that will be available is kept secret until the game starts, as it varies from arena to arena and is up to the game master. Here is a sample list of items, so that you can have an idea of what to expect to see.

Weapons
Short Sword (hand), +2 attack
Long Sword (hand), +3 attack
Battle Hammer (hand), +2 attack
Axe (hand), +4 attack (-1 armor value to each piece of armor you wear)
Mace (hand), +2 attack (If the enemy doesn't die when you attack, destroy 1 random piece of their armor)
Spear (hand), +2 attack (deals 2 damage to attackers while you are defending)
Stun Gun (hand), +1 attack. Enemy has half armor during the next phase.
Whip (hand), +1 attack. Causes the targeted enemy to drop their weapon.
Handgun (hand), +2 attack (Ranged: you avoid damage while attacking, even if their item permits them to deal damage)
Repeating Crossbow (hand) +2 attack (Ranged: you avoid damage while attacking, even if their item permits them to deal damage)
Dagger (off-hand), +1 attack / +1 Defense
Baton (off-hand), +2 attack
Hammer (off-hand), +1 attack
Battle Axe (2 handed), +5 attack
Katana (2 handed), +5 attack
War Hammer (2 handed), +4 attack (If the enemy doesn't die when you attack, destroy 1 random piece of their armor)
Bo Staff (2 handed), +4 attack / + 4 defense
Bow (2 handed), +3 attack (Ranged: you avoid damage while attacking, even if their item permits them to deal damage)
M16 (2 handed), +4 attack (Ranged: you avoid damage while attacking, even if their item permits them to deal damage)
Armor
Shield (off-hand), +2 Defense
Riot Shield (off-hand), +2 defense
Tower Shield (Hand), +3 defense
Spiked Shield (off-hand) +1 attack, +2 defense (deals 1 damage to attackers while you are defending)
Body Armor (Armor), +3 defense (+2 extra vs ranged weapons)
Force Field (Armor), +3 defense (+2 extra vs non-ranged weapons)
Kevlar (Armor), +2 defense (+4 extra vs ranged weapons)
Platemail (Armor), +4 defense (-2 defense vs hammers)
Misc
Deadly Poison - Your swords, daggers, and axes have +1 attack
Fire Arrows - Your Bows and Crossbows have +1 attack
Hollow Points - your Handgun and M16 have +1 attack
Steroids - Your hammers have +2 attack
Stoneskin amulet - you have +1 armor
Carried Equipment:
Players may only have each slot filled, and not carry any extra items. Slots are as followed:
Main Hand: Can be filled with any Main, Off-Hand, or 2 Handed item
Off Hand: Can be filled with any off-hand item, as long as no 2 handed item is equipped in the main hand
Body: Can be filled with any Body item
Misc: Can have unlimited Misc. items
Darkstrait currently has a short sword and a shield equipped (2 attack, 2 defense total). Henn has a Long Sword equipped (3 attack, 0 defense total). Henn submits an Attack on Darkstrait. Darkstrait submit a Defense, targeting himself.
After the actions are resolved, Henn deals 3 damage to Darkstrait. Darkstrait doubled his defense to 4, and so does not die from this turn. Both players live until the next phase.
The Salaxalans currently has an Axe equipped (4 attack, 0 defense total) while Escade has Mace equipped (2 attack, 0 defense total). The Salaxalans submits an attack on Escade. Escade submits a Scavenge on the Platemail.
After all the actions are resolved, The Salaxalans deals 4 damage to Escade. Escade successfully scavenges the plate mail, bringing her defense to 4. Since the total attack on her did not go over her defense value, both players survive the turn.
God-Emperor currently has a Plate Mail and Shield equipped (0 attack, 6 defense). Farengeto has a long sword equipped (3 attack, 0 defense). TheUnitedSolarRepublic has an Axe equipped (4 attack, 0 defense). Farengeto submits an attack on God-Emperor. TheUnitedSolarRepublic submits an attack on God-Emperor. God-Emperor submits a scavenge on Spear.
After all the actions are resolved, Farengeto deals 3 damage to God-Emperor. TheUnitedSolarRepublic deals 4 damage to God-Emperor. These combine for a total of 7 damage. God-Emperor successfully scavenges a spear, bringing his total values to 2 attack, 6 defense. The combined 7 attack is more than his 6 defense, so he dies. The special ability on his spear allows him to deal damage to his attackers, so Farengeto and TheUnitedSolarRepublic both take 2 damage, which is more than their 0 defense. The result is all 3 players die.
Arbiter08 currently has a short sword and shield equipped (2 attack, 2 defense). Almonaster currently has a long sword equipped (3 attack, 0 defense). Arbiter08 submits an attack on Almonaster. Almonaster submits an attack on Arbiter08.
After all the actions are resolved, Arbiter08 deals 2 damage to Almonaster, which is more than his defense of 0. Almonaster deals 3 damage to Arbiter08, which is more than his defense of 2. The results is both players die.
Gustave Berr currently has the M-16 equipped for 4 attack. Andrew currently has a Spear and spiked shield equipped (3 attack and 2 defense). He also gets to deal 3 damage to attackers (2 from spear, 1 from shield). Kris Kringle has nothing equipped (0 attack, 0 defense). Gustave Berr submits an attack on Andrew. Andrew submits scavenge for Kevlar. Kris Kringle also scavenges for Kevlar.
Gustave Berr deals 4 damage to Andrew. Thanks to the Ranged ability of his m-16, he does not take the 3 damage for attacking him. Andrew and Kris Kringle both have a random roll, and Kris Kringle ends up winning the Kevlar Scavenge, while Andrew ends up with nothing for the turn. Andrew has taken 4 damage, more than his 2 defense, and dies. Gustave Berr and Kris Kringle both live.
southern bellz has a Bow equipped (3 damage, 0 defense). The Union of Free Individuals has a Battle Hammer equipped (2 attack, 0 defense). southern bellz submits an attack on The Union of Free Individuals. The Union of Free Individuals submits an attack on southern bellz.
southern bellz deals 3 damage to The Union of Free Individuals. This is more than his 0 defense, so The Union of Free Individuals dies. The Union of Free Individuals deals 2 damage to southern bellz, which is more than his 0 defense, so southern bellz dies. The result of both actions is that both players die, even if southern bellz had a ranged weapon, it doesn't negate a direct attack from The Union of Free Individuals.
Sign ups procedure:
I am capping this game at 8 players. In true hunger games fashion, there will be a lottery. Everyone who signs up will be put onto a list, and then 8 names will be drawn from that list. Players who are not selected to compete, will become sponsors, and be given 2 credits added to their account to spend as they wish. Dead players will be given 1 sponsor coin to use as they wish once they enter the Lounge.
You may sign up only to be a sponsor without playing, however you will only be given 1 credit in your account to spend.
Player sign ups will end this Monday, 3/23 at 11:30 AM EST. The game will start at 12:00 PM, at which point I will start a new game thread. Phases will last 24 hours, and be due at 12:00 PM EST every day, except for weekends when phases will last 36 hours. Sponsors may continue to sign-up as long as the game is running.

The 12-player cap is also a 12-player minimum lol. I will change it to 10 if we have to.
Ok - I don't want to leave you guys hanging - so I'll reduce the game size to 8 players. Just two more to go!
