Factbooks and National Information
#11

I do agree on that most of them would probably go unused, but if they are placed within a second subforum as suggested by Henn, they would indeed be more organized.

Blergh, not a major idea. Just throwing it out there. I'm fine without this.

Speaking as an admin, I think individual national subforums would be a long shot. Remember we would have to create them each time someone asks for one, and archive them when needed. Plus, we really do have the goal of making the layout simpler, and that would go contrary to it.

That said, as a roleplayer, I think individual threads would actually be better. Having subforums would compartmentalise too much the information, and make it tiring for someone to read all the stuff people post. It would be more accessible if we each posted a thread, where we could make as many replies as we wanted, with additional information. You could read one thread and easily more to another without having to click the back button too many times. Perhaps we would have a pinned thread in that hypothetical subforums with an index of all national threads, for ease of access?

I am assuming people will make more than one thread for their nation - as is the current situation - but yeah, an index could work if done properly and regularly updated.

Mmm. OK, I see where the confusion was. I pictured a subforum where we had the following:

1. Our current survey threads, where we can all post national information.
2. One thread per nation, where the OP would be an index plus general introduction, and reply posts would expand on specific issues (economy, government, culture). A thread would be like a wikipedia article.

Now, I'm not saying this is how it should definitely be. I'm simply saying how I envisioned this, so we can each know what the other was thinking.

What if some topics use several posts (IE. Noctenosian language thread)? I prefer keeping some stuff in separate threads just for the sake of organization within that thread.

Oh, I wouldn't have a problem with specialised threads. My point about single national threads was about Belschaft's original mention of national factbooks, in the sense of a wiki-style description of your nation in more general terms. I don't know if that makes sense?

I really don't want to impose anything, so please do say (anyone) if you have an different vision, so we can all discuss it. Tounge

Kris has accurately described what I had in mind; just look at the main NS forums for an example.
