Resolution 007: THE SAFE PASSAGE OF HOLY PILGRIMAGES
#21

Ambassador Martel sighed and motioned at one of his aides to run the transcript through translation software.

"Fine. Allow me to posit a situation for you. This summer myself and others from across the South Pacific travel to the beaches of southern Farengeto. When asked we state that it is part of a pilgrimage for our religion. We stay in the hotel we consider a holy place of our religion. We engage in activities such as swimming and lying on the beach, holy rituals of our religion, and visit tourist sites that our holy sites of our religion.

"Now many would argue that just a travel is just a vacation, not a holy pilgrimage. You might even consider the suggestion an insult to your pilgrimages. But in the end how do you judge what is and isn't a pilgrimage? My travel meets most definitions of a pilgrimage, unless you are to discriminate against my religion by denying it is real. Under your proposal I am entitled to all its protections from the government planning it for me to military protection for us.

"So, do you deny my religion or can my fellow believers request help in planning our summer travels?"

A couple points. First, we completely agree with Ambassador Martel here. Not all pilgrimages are giant affairs with thousands of people gathering at once. A trip to the local church or sinagogue can also be considered pilgrimage. Does the State need to provide protection then?

Replying to the Hammerstarian delegate, again, it is not the duty of the State to provide education for pilgrimages, as that is a purely religious affair. Vaccines I can understand, as any country with a public healthcare system can provide them, but we will not give anybody special status for their religious beliefs, be it Karnetvorian or not.

Besides, if we use Hajj as an example, somebody who travels to the polar regions or to a rainforest faces dangers too. The local authorities will provide help to that hypothetical tourist in case he or she is in danger, just like they would in case a pilgrim suffers from dehydration. the host country is the one that should deal with the security of the people there. It is that way in any other event.

Also, even if the number 007 was taken, we can simply change it. It is not an issue.
