Evening Broadcast from 8-20-16
Host: good evening and welcome back to This Is News. I'm Sam Frank and we're coming to you live from Imperium with an update on today's events here in the FSoO. It's been quite the day. Earlier today the we got final numbers from this week's PSE trading with our final numbers showing the market going down 88 points. Looking ahead, if further instability is seen in the Resentine Elections we could see this go down, despite the fact that resentine does not trade on the PSE.
Now our main story tonight is the South Pacific Summit on Free Trade (TSP-SOFT). It all began with an open invitation from Elector Primo Thomas Winston for foreign nations to join him here in Imperium for TSP-SOFT. this sinvitation has been accepted by 3 other countries. Invitations can be accepted up till the date the Summit will start which is September 1st. There is no official agenda out yet for the Summit and it will be interesting to see what kind of agreement comes out of the Summit. We will be having full coverage of the Summit once it begins.
When we come back we take a look into DTC and things you might not know that they do...
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

Welcome back. We are receiving a breaking news update here from Imperium. Vice Elector Primo (VEP) John Colbert has called back the Supreme Electorate for an emergency session to give the Elector Primo power to approve any agreement from TSP-SOFT. The proposal for this session will state that any agreement he signs will become active within the FSoO as soon as he signs it. This will be an unprecedented amount of power for the Elector Primo and will be interesting to see if the Omegan Freedom Alliance (OFA) and Omegan Nationalist Party (ON) will approve of this measure. If they don't it looks like the Omegan Centrist Party will really become the deciding factor. We might expect that the OFA will approve because VEP Colbert os from their party but this really could go anywhere in floor debate tomorrow. We would like to remind our viewers that this is how the Supreme Electorate currently is made up:
(Key: Omegan People's Party (OPP); 15 Seats (6%)
Omegan Socialist Party (OSP); 33 Seats (13.20%)
Omegan Centrist Party (OCP); 109 Seats (43.60%)
Omegan Freedom Alliance (OFA); 67 Seats (26.08%)
Omegan Nationalist Party (ON); 25 seats (10%)
Vice Elector Primo/Independent (VEP/I); 1 Seat (.4%))
It will be interesting if the VEP can get enough votes for this measure. We think it will come down to the OCP and how they split on this one.
We'll be right back after this.
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

Evening Broadcast 2-28-17
Good evening and thank you for tuning in. It has been a big day in party politics. Let's start with last night. Around 21:20 (CST) the Resentine Federalist Republican Party stated its interest in working with other centrist parties from across Pacifica. And then within the hour news broke that OCP Chair Rex Kerry would host a summit of Centrist Parties in order to discuss forming an International Centrist Party Alliance. An invitation has been sent and it looks like it will begin a week from today.
But that's not all. The tensions with the Omegan Socialist Party (OSP) between the moderates and the party base boiled over today and the Omegan Democratic Alliance (ODA) was founded, a left from center party. A few members of the OCP also joined it and it looks as though it has some support based on interviews conducted today. The party is in talks right now the OCP and OFA on forming a new governing alliance (as opposed to the current OFA/OCP one), however seeing as the OFA and OCP have a majority on their own it is unlikely they would add the ODA into their coalition.
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

Evening Broadcast: 4-17-17

Good evening. We are going live to the Black Room in the Elector Primo's mansion to hear his announcement for his selection for Chief Justice of the Omegan Supreme Court.

(Now in Black Room, focused on podium where the Elector Primo is already standing) Good evening. My friends as many of you know, Justice Stephen Fallon Passed away 3 days ago from a stroke. He was a wonderful man to know and he had the wisdom I could only hope to possess. He was kind, energetic and above all humble. On the day I was sworn in he and I had lunch a bit before the ceremony and I asked him why he is always so cheerful when on the bench. He said to me these words which have forever changed the way I view my job. He said "I am cheerful because I love the opportunity I have to serve the great people of this country. Every now and then I may do something that goes against the other justices, however, I always rule in a way that will be of service to the people in this nation. I have been blessed to be able to serve until this day."
I went into the Supreme Court chamber to meet with Justice Blue hall and Justice Valence earlier today and I saw in Justice Fallon's seat his white robe draped over it. As those of us who have ever watched the proceedings of the Supreme Court know, Justice Fallon was known for his white robe. He always said they were to help him know to rule with a pure mind and only go off the law.
Many of you in this room knew Justice Fallon (he glances at the press, judges, and Electors in the room) and as we take this time to remember his life I would ask for a moment of silence.

My friends, you know why you are here though. We are here today not to dwell on the past, but to look to the future. After much deliberation, I have selected Judge Russel Woodring to be the next Chief Justice of the Omegan Supreme Court.

(Anchor's voice is heard) There we have it. Judge Russel Woodring has been nominated. Judge Woodring has been a member of the High Court of Appeals since 2005. The High Court of Appeals is the court directly below the Supreme Court and is where the last 3 nominees have come from. Judge Woodring has ruled on many occasions that economic related policy must be left up to the states however, he has ruled in the past that things like immigration and welfare are up to the national government. He is expected to draw support from members of the both the National Caucus [27.6% of the Supreme Electorate] and the State Caucus [31.2%]. However, do remember that the OCP does not allow it's members to join either of those caucuses and hardliners from both of those Caucasus could account for up to 20% of the Supreme Electorate. We expect him to receive anywhere from 52%-78% of votes in favor of his confirmation. He will be questioned by the Supreme Electorate starting Wednesday with a vote expected Friday.
We'll be back after this...
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

Ryccian testimony to the Supreme Electorate foreign Affairs Committee regarding the Erinorian Civil War

We have decided to post, for all the world, the testimony given before the Foreign Affairs Committee moments ago. Very enlightening about how Ryccia is viewing this issue. Here is the full testimony.

Parties Release Campaign Manifestos for 2019 Elections

Today marked the first big moment in the race for the Supreme Electorate, which will ultimately decide who becomes Elector Primo. Today marked the day where the Electoral Commission releases the manifestos for all parties eligible to run in this years election. All six parties currently in the Supreme Electorate have been deemed eligible, a relief for the Omegan Socialist Party which has seen membership drop since the creation of the Omegan Democratic Alliance. Our chief political correspondent summarized each manifesto as follows:

Omegan Peoples Party (OPP): The OPP has long tried to stand out as the party for the working class. This election's platform is no different. The platform opens by declaring capitalism to be responsible for an overwhelming majority of problems facing the FSoO. The platform advocates for expanding the government retirement system, raising the minimum wage and providing a government-backed jobs guarantee. When it comes to foreign relations, the OPP calls for the FSoO to spread the revolution across TSP. The goal: convince the younger generation that collectivism is the answer. While toned down from previous platforms as it does not call for the government to seize the means of production immediately, it does call for the government to begin a 10-year transition to full communism.

Omegan Socialist Party (OSP): The OSP has seen hardship in the last few years with moderates flocking to the ODA and hardliners running to the OPP. This year, there are concerns that the platform looks all too similar to the current one: advocating a government takeover in the energy sectors and expanding government regulation in the financial sector. They do also have a clause stating they are against capitalism but, in contrast to the OPP, advocate for Omegan neutrality.

Omegan Democratic Alliance (ODA): This will mark the first election for the ODA, formed after moderate members of the OSP and left-leaning members of the OCP left their respective parties. Their platform advocates for capitalism, but capitalism with oversight and strong government unemployment benefits and a publically-funded retirement system. They have also announced they would back a significant increase in education to make all public universities cost no more than $10,000 a year for students. This election will be a crucial test for the new ODA. They too advocate Omegan neutrality.

Omegan Centrist Party (OCP): The OCP has dominated Omegan politics since the beginning of the Federation. This year the OCP platform advocates devolution to state governments, increased education funding and increased infrastructure funding. They are also advocating for a measure to allow the Chair of the Supreme Electorate (traditionally the Vice Elector Primo) to be held by a non-member of the chamber, albeit with different voting rights. Could this be the start of a movement toward the first non-Elector Elector Primo? In terms of foreign affairs, they seem to want to continue to encourage international cooperation but still maintain neutrality.

Omegan Freedom Alliance (OFA): The OFA is seeking to secure a third term in government with only the OCP as their partner. This year's platform is advocating for decreased regulation of business, a government program to encourage research into gree energy through the private sector and a sweeping infrastructure project. They say while these may seem to go against their conservative views, in reality, they will stimulate the economy for years to come. They, like the OCP, advocate for greater devolution to state governments, which the OFA going further to support devolution for education and agricultural subsidies saying "the one-size-fits-all approach needs to be sent to the history books." In terms of foreign policy, they seem to be lockstep with the OCP.

Omegan Nationalist Party (ONP): THis far-right party has gained traction in recent years. They advocate for little to no government intervention in all parts of the economy, the closing of the FSoO's borders and the abolition of neutrality. They want all universities to be privately owned, see increased economic activity by opening up protected areas to drilling and mining and privatizing all ports. The only place they want more spending: defense.

In other news, the first polling numbers are in:
OPP: 15%
OSP: 3%
ODA: 20%
OCP: 35%
OFA: 25%
ONP: 2%

Dismal for the ONP and the OSP as the ONP must suffer the ramifications of years of causing gridlock and the OSP must deal with the ODA and OPP aggressively looking to keep them out of the Supreme Electorate. We shall see what comes as the campaign continues.

Finally, it is worth reminding our viewers that each state has its own process for deciding electors:
Pecuniam: all members of the state senate are made electors. They are chosen in an electoral district so each represents only a part of the state.

Litus: Fourty are elected to serve in only the Supreme electorate and an additional five are chosen by the prince of Litus. Those five will be OCP members.

Terra: all forty-five members serve fro life from Terra after having been chosen by the council of tribes. This means the following seats are guaranteed: OPP 2, OSP 10, ODA 10, OCP 18, OFA, 5.
Silva: the Imperial Council decides who may run for office through a series of interviews and then citizens mark who they wish not to serve on their ballots.

Ailments: citizens vote for a party and each party receives seats proportional to their votes.

Imperium: utilizes the same process as Ailments though they only have 25 seats as opposed to 45 like the states have.

[OOC: I may make a thread for the campaign and results if y'all think that would be a good idea. If so, please let me know.]
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

New polling has come out on the election following five days of campaigning. Trends are pointing toward a surge in moderate, pro-capitalist support between the ODA, OCP, and OFA. The only exception would be the OPP who has seen rising support from the left, notably as the OSP continues to lose votes. Here are the current polling averages:

OPP 17% (+2%)
OSP 1% (-2%)
ODA 23% (+3%)
OCP 33% (-2%)
OFA 24% (-1%)
ONP 2% (+0%)

At this point, the pro-capitalist moderates would control 80% of the seats in the Supreme Electorate, a number bolstered by the new ODA.
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

This week saw a drop in support for the ODA as it emerged that the leader of the ODA had proposed an alliance with the OSP and OPP in parliament. The deal was not well received by potential ODA voters who have shifted toward the OCP as they are broadly pro-capitalist. Polling numbers are as follows:
OPP: 15% (-2%)
OSP: 3% (+2%)
ODA: 13% (-10%)
OCP: 40% (+7%)
OFA: 27% (+3%)
ONP: 2% (+0%)
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

Today the Chairman for the OFA, John Tillerson, gave a speech in which he called for "the dawn of a new era of Omegan democracy. One not dictated by who we are, but by what we could be. An era where all men and women of this country come together in service to their fellow man, and through compassion work to eliminate the evils of poverty, hunger, and homelessness. Let us embark upon a new era where the people of this nation are empowered to be the best they can. Most importantly, let us remember that we are strong because of our compassion and that love for others, regardless of their beliefs, must always be the guiding principle of this country. If we hold this idea near to our hearts, no issue, no conflict, and no election will ever divide this country. Together we can usher in a new era in the Federation."

The speech is being heralded as his step into the limelight as he looks to become the heir apparent for when Vice Elector Primo and Speaker of the Electorate John Colbert retires at the end of this upcoming term. The speech is also receiving widespread acclaim not just from within the OFA but also from the OCP governor of Pecuniam who said it was "a speech that will define a generation."

The speech has received its fair share of criticism from the OSP and OPP with the OPP chairman James Shultz remarking that "if he truly wants to empower all citizens then he knows the answer is not through compassion and free markets. He knows the answer will come from putting out foot down to capitalist who simply wants to exploit us, not empower us."
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

The speech from the OFA Chairman, John Tillerson, has led to a significant shift toward the right in polling. Five days from the election, it is unlikely another major shift will come. The potential now exists that he OCP will not be senior partners in a governing coalition for the first time in the Federation's history.

OPP: 10% (-5%)
OSP: 3% (+0%)
ODA: 10% (-3%)
OCP: 35% (-5%
OFA: 40% (+13%)
ONP: 2% (+0%)
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.
