Permanent Justice Appointment

Is that a motion for a disapproval vote? If so I need it to be actually motioned and not danced around. Thank you.
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

I support this. I think Raven is a upstanding, respectable guy and will be an authoritative and reasonable voice.

And, not to threadjack, but I think we need to discuss the role/selection process of a Permanent Justice. The current setup seems nearly untentable, if not down right impossible.

Trying to line up someone who is respected and has a history of dealing with legislative issues, but it's highly incendiary is difficult. I understand the point of this setup was to allow a potentially incendiary candidates through, but that doesn't seem like a great thing for our democracy.

I don't have a solution, per se, but we got ish when we named Feir and there seems to be some push back against Raven. I suppose my question is: Is there anyone we'd ever agree on?

I do not believe Raven has the characteristics I look for in a lifetime appointment as Permanent Justice. The last time he held office in TSP, he resigned and didn't even alert the Cabinet, showing a cavalier dismissal of the community and his colleagues. He resigned because he didn't like heated comments coming from Unibot. This is worrisome because our judiciary is well known to be an arena for heated debate and criticism of the Justice's decision.

I think Raven is a capable player and respectable person. But he's been serving as Delegate of TNP and will most likely be the Vice Delegate of TNP for the next term. That, to me, is a clear conflict of interests, and speaks to the same old concentration of power among the GCRs that I've opposed for a long time. His interests seem to lie mostly outside of TSP, to be plain about it. And that's fine, but it's not what I look for in the leader of our judiciary. There are other well-qualified individuals in our community that put their priority on TSP. This position should go to those members of the community.

This puts me at odd with my Cabinet colleagues. But this is a lifetime appointment. If Raven wants to, he can maintain control of our judiciary for years to come. I don't believe the Cabinet reached its decision based on the merits and character histories of all the possible choices, despite this appointment languishing in the to-do box for longer than necessary. I must respectfully break from the Cabinet on this appoint.

To me, you present an argument (which I could argue with, or not) against Raven being elected Delegate of the South Pacific.

If the worst you can say about Raven's service as Foreign Minister is that he resigned, I don't understand your concern about granting him an indefinite appointment as Justice. If he resigns, we appoint a replacement. He'll resign at some point regardless, I imagine, as I would hope nobody wants to remain the lead Justice forever.

Furthermore, the role of Justice is not supposed to make policy. While I would understand concerns that policy could be made that would favor another region, however friendly, the role of Justice is responsible for the fair and coherent interpretation of our laws and of facts in a criminal matter. If a Justice is not acting unprofessionally, I believe there should be no room for foreign interest. I could, of course, be overthinking that.

Raven would make an excellent and highly capable Permanent Justice. Full support.

I will motion for a vote.

I think everyone thinks Raven is well suited for the job, but he is never around and as Glen said his last Cabinet post he quit suddenly with no notification or anything. He is not very active in TSP, if he was I'd support his nomination however he is very rarely seen in TSP anymore.

This is my belief. It's not that he's not bad at the job, it's that he hasn't been as active in TSP as he has in other regions, and I would prefer heads of the branches of governments to be TSP-focused first.

Josh is in TSP's Discord server chatting every day; I don't think activity on this forum should be used as the sole judge of activity.

I imagine being Delegate of the largest region in the game for the last 8 months has kept him pretty busy and yet he still seems to know more about what's going on around here better than supposedly dedicated TSPers.

We can have this discussion without resorting to thinly veiled personal attacks on me.
