Qvait-Huawan Megatunnel Opening
#31

"InsyaAllah things would indeed go well, I am uncertain of the future myself, perhaps in the future it would not be you who sit here before me, but someone else." answered The Peony, "we are however indeed prepared to face the unknown. Is there something you wish to say Diao Chan?"

"We can only pray for Allah to give rahmat for those who deserve it." Responded Diao Chan, who sipped her tea in silence "I do believe my Nuwang, that we can celebrate the momentous occasion?"

"Indeed, let us celebrate this affair." Responded The Peony, "now honorable Chancellor, before I offer you and your honorable delegation something to eat, I offer you a place in my home to stay for the night, honorable Chancellor."

"Excellent! Rin, please complete the preparations for our guests. They shall be staying here for the night."

"Yes my Nuwang." Bowed Rin.

"The night is still young, perhaps you wish to talk further over some sweet buns?" Asked the Peony

The Peony and those who spoke in the Qvaitican delegation told many stories over tea and hot buns, when the wind chimed, The Peony then spoke: "It's time for bed."

The Peony then asked Rin to guide the guests to their rooms, in each of their rooms are comfortable floor beds on tatami with traditional robes as pajamas. It had no air conditioning, the wind from the outside window was enough to keep the room cool. As such the delegations were put to their separate rooms in accordance with the Qvaitican requests.

After everyone is settled in, The Peony went to her own room, changed to her robe and slept. It didn't took 3 hours for her to get up once more and rush back to the hospital as she was beeped. The sound of a motorcycle speeding out of the housing complex carrying The Peony and one of her guardians was heard aloud, it did not awake the delegation however.

Fast forward to the ceremony, both delegations arrived at the inaugural ceremony by a high-speed train from Lián to the village of AweiQinna, where the press conference takes place. After the inauguration then they shall take another train over to the Qvaitican side of the tunnel and end the ceremony.

The megatunnel known in the Peonic end as the Mikotoba Tunnel, named after the "grandfather of Peonic architecture" and one of the longest tunnels in the region.

Both delegations went to the stage as the camera lights flashed, the conference began.

OOC: Any remarks on the inauguration of this tunnel?

OOC: Yeah, some short remarks.

Chancellor Margaret Harrison spoke, "This is the beginning of a new era with an interdependent relationship between the United Kingdom and Huawan and it is an honor to be here to see it happen. People from all walks of life can come together ever so easier with the opening of this tunnel, which will serve to the benefit of everyone. I'll let The Peony know right now; I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

"We are happy to be acquainted with such an honorable neighbor that respects and sees eye of a garden of opportunities waiting to be nurtured and cultivated. As such, we do believe that the opening of this tunnel would greatly benefit both our countries in our journey towards prosperity."

The press asks,

"Abdel Hisham from Al-Haqq, Sriwijaya, would there be more in store for the future?"

"We believe that we have gone through odds to make this remarkable record breaking tunnel, we can assure you, as long as we open the channels of communication, our relations, will remain splendid." Responded the Peony.

"Thank you, Kevin Strauss from La Rapiére, the Qvaitican party leader Nicole Chancellor has openly opposed the construction of the Mikotoba tunnel, and claims that its opening marks an entry of foreigners of Peonic origin, which she claims are lecherous to Qvait and its nationals, what are your remarks?"

"We believe that if she really wanted to come to power, she should behave towards her next-door neighbor more professionally." Responded the Peony

"I believe maybe there are questions from or towards Honorable Chancellor Harrison?" Asked The Peony

Chancellor Margaret Harrison gestured toward one of the outlets.

"David Schock, Stockholm Times. The polls show that Referendum 1 will overwhelmingly pass, triggering a legislative election to occur on 11 June. Do you have confidence that the Labor Party will retain control after the election?"

Harrison: "Without a doubt."

"I have a second question regarding Referendum 4. The numbers are tightening in the polls. Do you think you will have the votes to shut it down?"

Harrison: "I was elected on the promise of a world union. I don't think the voters would change their minds a year later."

"Michael Taylor, KTN. Hypothetically speaking, if The New Right wins on Referendum 4 and wins the 11 June legislative election, what would you do then?"

Harrison: "I'd rather not dwell on hypotheticals."

"As a follow-up, polls show that Labor stands to lose many of its seats from other left-wing parties, especially to the Populist—Left, which could possibly overtake Labor. Will you attempt to form a coalition with these parties?"

Harrison: "If Labor–Green, our current coalition, loses its majority, that's certainly something we would look at. Does anyone have a question about the tunnel or something related to Qvait–Huawan affairs?"

"Bailey Frost, Augusta Harold. The Chandler Foundation released a report estimating that 30,000 manufacturing jobs will be lost in Qvait because of the opening of this tunnel. What do you have to say about that?"

Harrison: "I've also seen a report from the Marcos Institute that the tunnel would create just as much, if not more, employment opportunities abroad and at home. We have seen the manufacturing industry lose out to machines, which have boosted the economy at the expense of jobs, but does that mean that we shut down the machines because they are harming jobs? No, they make our economy more efficient. Instead, we try to find the newly-unemployed new opportunities elsewhere. Economists have said that work and wages could become obsolete within two centuries because of advancing technology. What do we do then? Two centuries from now, people wouldn't be talking about jobs because machinery is working for us. We all become employers. We are seeing the manufacturing industry becoming obsolete right before our eyes. Jobs in this sector are shrinking and that is out of our hands. Look at the cab industry. The same is happening there. We should be looking at economic growth and the welfare of the people rather than the job numbers."

"We need to think one hundred steps ahead. Two hundred years from now, we won't be talking about jobs. We will be talking about the next planet. Our collective work will be expanding out into the rest of the universe. We still have yet to set foot on a planet that can independently sustain our species. The planet we currently live on won't live forever. You're talking about manufacturing jobs right now, but this sector will probably not exist in fifty years and it won't be my fault. It will be advancing technology. This tunnel is just as much about unity with people from other nations as it is economic growth. We will all have to come together if we want to go on to the next planet."

"So, you want to have open borders with neighboring countries?"

Harrison: "We already have open borders. If you look at our national geography our national borders are mountainous. This tunnel is an end run of the mountains that border Qvait and Huawan and there are more tunnels to come with Huawan and other countries. We already have stringent security policies in place, so what's all the worry? The only major threat that we have to worry about as a nation is from domestic terrorism—socialist radicals and ethno-nationalists."

"Dawson Klein, Sydney Times. During the campaign in 2015, you promised legislation addressing homelessness. It's been nine months since you took office and there is still no legislation submitted on this issue. What's the holdup?"

Harrison: "We've been drafting a bill and I can assure you that a bill will be submitted in three months—May. We've been meeting with economists, mayors, city planners, and the likes. We'll submit a bill in May and there will be additional debate on the bill. You know, democracy is slow. Everything's quick in a dictatorship, but that's not us and it never will be. Alright, that'll be enough questions."

"Let us begin then!"

The diplomatic party marched into a train with a streamlined locomotive in front. An old locomotive from the Peonic railway museum, which was actually the royal Peonic locomotive at the time. With woodwork and detail so precise as well as a grand interior that houses an incredible number of deals and the settlement of conflicts by the monarch. From The Peony's mother, grandmother, and other royal members of the royal family.

The two flags in front of the locomotive used to fashion a single banner, the Peonic banner, with the Peonic emblem in front. Now one of the flags are switched to the Qvaitican flag, marking the (hopefully) longlasting cooperation between the two states.

Four carriages are present. The last carriage is the observation deck, and houses both the Peonic and the Qvaitican VIP's. As for the carriages in front, it was filled with other guests such as reporters, train enthusiasts, workers and ministers.

The Peony sat with Diao Chan, Rin and Chechel, her three angels, and in front of them, the Qvaitican delegation. They took many photos together, even entry towards the carriage with both the Chancellor and The Poeny shaking hands is placed in photograph. And a photo of both of them waving behind the reporters as the train whistles and slowly moves its speed.

"how are you liking it so far madam Chancellor?" Asked Diao Chan, "I have heard that there's something of uniqueness in this tunnel."
