[PASSED] Amendment to the Political Parties Act
#21

Given Glen's obvious disapproval to this, I think we should alter this amendment so that the admin team is required to locate all political parties under a subforum. Otherwise, we aren't forcing the admin team to do anything – and since Glen is very clearly a biased member of that same team this seems like a necessary requirement to this amendment.

I'd like to propose an additional two clauses to this proposal

(4) All political party forums are to be contained within a single catch-all forum designated for political parties an appropriate forum section of the official offsite forums of The South Pacific.

(5) The forums of Political Parties are to be sorted by order of registration.

Quote:3. Benefits to Active Political Parties

(1) Political parties that maintain an accurate public membership roster, and field at least one member for public office in an election per year, qualify for a dedicated public and private subforum.

(2) Political parties may petition the Chair of the Assembly for approval for a subforum. The Chair of the Assembly will verify the qualifications of the party, and if the party meets those qualifications, notify the Forum Administration to create the party's dedication dedicated subforums.

(3) Dedicated party subforums will consist of two parts--
a. a public top-level subforum where the party must post pin an up to date version of its membership roster;
b. a password-protected subforum, which will have the necessary permissions to ensure non-members cannot read threads without authorization.

(4) All political party subforums are to be contained within a single catch-all forum designated for political parties in an appropriate forum section of the official offsite forums of The South Pacific.

(5) The subforums of political parties are to be sorted by order of registration.
With Tim's suggestions incorporated.

I'd move that the draft brought forward by the Honorable Chair be voted on as soon as debate time expires.

It’s nice to see somebody taking up Imki’s reins in the region, I suppose.

What you’ve clearly failed to comprehend in your desire to stick it to the man, is that I haven’t said I wouldn’t do what the law requests. I’ve said the opposite, in fact. Nakari is the one who has insisted this would merely be optional. In any case, it’s not up to me, there are 3 admins. I even said earlier that the decision depends entirely on what Tsu and Kris think. If they’re of the same mind, I’m hardly going to blow up the world in opposition. Some people, see, don’t think that’s a valid option.

If you’re fine with your party being buried in subforums, that’s your decision. (I don’t think you really appreciate how much being on the index has done for APC, but then again you haven’t been there long.) It’s not one I would make, and without any real incentive, there’s no reason to participate in this program for those who know how to make their own forums, create Discord servers, etc.

But by all means, continue amending laws just to troll the opposition. That always works out swell. ^_^

Just for clarification, from an admin perspective, aside from what the bill allows, which of the following does it require?

1. Civil and Political Organisation Centre > Individual Party Subforums

2. Civil and Political Organisation Centre > Political Parties > Individual Party Subforums

It requires either

Civil and Political Organisation Centre > Individual Party Subforums

or

Registered Political Parties > Individual Party Subforums

I'm going to argue that there is merit in having a party on the official forums, even if a little less visible, because it still allows visibility on the forums and a sense of legitimacy. If a party chooses not to use forum subforums, then they're sacrificing what remains of that visibility.

I would prefer Nakari's second option, it's most logical.. especially since we have been calling the CPOC the place "where parties develop" before becoming registered parties.

I would argue the first one is more logical. It's the approach we already use elsewhere in the forum:

1. With newspapers, by putting them under the NS Discussion Centre when they are large enough.

2. With RP international organisations, by putting them under Shipwreck Cove when they are large enough.

If we already have an area that is meant for political parties, it would make little sense to create yet another area for political parties.
