TNP Government appoints new Ambassador to the region
Sanjurika succeeds predecessor McMasterdonia to lead its embassy in the South Pacific

Bzerneleg, Editor-in-chief

A letter of credence was sent 10 hours ago to the Prime Minister Farengeto from the North Pacific Minister of Foreign Affairs Malphe to request Farengeto to accept Sanjurika, as the new North Pacifican Ambassador to the South Pacific. According to the letter, Sanjurika has been a citizen of TNP and legislator in the Regional Assembly for 2 years.

The newly appointed Ambassador will replace veteran Ambassador McMasterdonia and be in charge maintaining communications between the two governments, improving and supporting interregional ties as well as aiding dual citizens in case they need such help.

The predecessor, McMasterdonia, has served as the Ambassador of the North Pacific to the South Pacific for many years. The former Ambassador is praised and will be remembered for his work to improve and strengthen interregional relations as well as the faithful execution of the office of the Ambassador and the duties and responsiblities vested in McMasterdonia.

Islands of Unity becomes new Minister of Regional Affairs
Islands of Unity won the special election after former Minister Nakari's resignation

Bzerneleg, Editor-in-chief

Former Delegate candidate, Islands of Unity, had his first ever election victory in the political career in the South Pacific. Finishing third in the very close July 2018 Delegate election, Islands of Unity failed to go to Round 2 of the election by 2 votes. However, not considering it a loss, the "newbie" candidate instead embraced the results and determined to continue his endless campaign for the pursuit what he called "librarian politics".

Carrying on the principles that he fought for throughout his political life, Islands of Unity entered the special election knowing he has got a good chance to make it his first victory and a foundation for later elections to come. He won 23 out of the 42 votes (55%), compared to North Prarie's 18 (45%). Out of a total of 42 votes in this election, 10 of them were private ballots. Islands of Unity won the private ballots with 6 votes, compared to his opponent's 3 votes and 1 RONs.

Despite Islands of Unity's plurality of votes, the number of Re-open Nomination votes (RONs) have been more popular with voters in recent elections. We have seen 14 voters choosing RON as their second preference, in which RONs accounted for 33% of second preference votes. 33% is an unusually high percentage for Re-open Nomination, which gives us a question that we have to answer. Are people satisfied with the candidates or is it just that in case their preferred candidate does not win, nominations will re-open?

The Calm After The Storm

Escade and Tim banned from the Regional Forum
The two longtime members of the region being banned after months of heated tensions

Bzerneleg, Editor-in-chief

Following an official statement Monday near midnight from incumbent Delegate and Forum Administrator Tsunamy, former Ministers of Regional Affairs and Foreign Affairs, Escade and Tim, serving during the Roavin administration, have been immediately banned from the forum for a period of eight months.

The reasoning behind the ban was, according to Administrator Tsunamy, "that hopefully will result in significant cooling of tensions in the region." The series of attacks between Escade and Tim caused serious, long-lasting damages to the region and undermined the values and principles of which this region and its institutions were founded upon. Many legislators have requested for their status to be revoked or just simply have left the regional forums due to the heated exchanges between the veteran public servants of this Coalition.

This statement was posted in the Office of the Legislator Committee by former legislator Flemingisa: "I would like to revoke my own legislator status. Y'all make me sick." This further supports the argument for the exchange of harsh words to be halted, however both Escade and Tim refused to do so, leading to a further escalation of the attacks between the two individuals.

The actions committed by Tim, Escade and all other individuals negatively involved in the tension have no place in this community, nor in any other places. Any attempt to erode the great values of this Coalition is an act against it. This incident showed us all how important it is that every citizen is given rights that must be respected and duties that must be fulfilled in order to achieve a region where, regardless of all the differences we all have, we embrace it and ensure that everyone can have the ability to enjoy the unalienable rights bestowed upon them by the Charter and as a human being.

Roavin to Increase Prime Ministerial Powers
The former PM's bill to give the position more power was seconded yesterday

Bzerneleg, Editor-in-chief

Former Prime Minister and incumbent Chair of the Assembly Roavin introduced an Amendment to the Charter to increase the powers and duties of the Prime Minister on August 8, and was brought to vote yesterday after Roavin's motion to vote was seconded by the Sakhalinsk Empire. The amendment is as follows:

3. As leader of the Cabinet, the Prime Minister is responsible for overseeing a collective Cabinet agenda, and may give directions and instructions to the ministers. Disputes within the Cabinet are subject to majority decision and collective responsibility; where there is no majority the Prime Minister’s vote shall be the deciding one.

There were 3 proposals being put on the table from Roavin (original), Tim and Belschaft. Roavin's proposal would give the Prime Minister ultimate authority over all executive actions, and they can be overruled by the unanimous consent of the Cabinet. Tim's proposal aims to vest in the PM oversight power by giving the position to power to veto executive actions and can be overruled by unanimous consent.

The Assembly ultimately decided to go with Belschaft's proposal which would vest in the Prime Minister the responsibility to oversee the formulation of the Cabinet's agenda and policies and direct and instruct Cabinet Ministers. All Cabinet disputes are to be subject to a simple majority vote, with the PM being the deciding vote in case a majority of votes have not been met.

The amendment will help achieve consensus in executive actions, with the Cabinet reaching its decisions as a collegial body and not some for and some against. To improve the amendment, however, would be that all Cabinet members, including the Prime Minister, stand by decisions of the Cabinet at all times, even if their personal views and stances may not be in accord with such decision. This is to ensure consensus and better execution of those actions as all decision makers support such execution.

All new laws has its flaws, for this one, transparency. How will the Cabinet ensure that the people may be informed and know of their decision-making process, knowing that there is no legal requirement of the Cabinet to publicly release their decision-making process and votes?
