How did you arrive in TSP?

Poppy, since we're here and I'm curious, could you tell us how you came to your rather interesting choice of nation name? Also how do you remember it Omg

ooo a thread! This is probably gonna get rambly.

First by way of explanation. If you look at the boneyard you will see another nation called "Witchcraft and Sorcery" alive for a couple weeks in 2005 or 06. That is not me. I also do not control "The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," the current founder of the region Hogwarts, as much as Yuno and a couple of others occasionally credit it to me. Contrary to popular belief, my nation's name actually has nothing to do with Harry Potter. It was inspired by an inside joke we had in my Science Olympiad team - whenever we didn't know an answer on a tournament test, we would just write "witchcraft and sorcery" or something like that. Because science, ya know :p

My main nation was founded on 1 Feb 2013. I was a freshman in high school and my civics class had made a class nation where we voted on how to answer the nation's issues and tracked our progress. The nation "B2 Civics" is unfortunately too big for me to claim myself, but you can still see our glorious factbooks here. I and a few others thought this issue answering was fun so we made some nations of our own. They all just kind of stayed with that and eventually got bored, but I happened to open my telegram box and see a recruitment TG from 10000 Islands. It looked cool so I moved there and that was the beginning of a rabbit hole that hasn't stopped for six years. With the exception of a year and a half from March 2017 to September 2018, my main has resided in 10ki ever since.

My involvement with TSP started back in 2014 when I was made 10ki's emissary to TSP. All I did back then was just foreign updates on the forum. The Great Council and all the weird stuff that went on flew right over my sheltered little head. In early 2016, however, I was made Tactical Officer in TITO. That was my dream job, and sort of the start of "phase 2" of my career. During that time, I started to meet (and reconnect) with people outside of 10ki and open my world perspective a bit.

This gradually led to me being at loggerheads with the rest of TITO command on an increasing basis over various issues, and it came to a head when I resigned in 2017 after one particularly nasty dispute. I joined the Grey Wardens, and that's where I met Roavin, Nakari, and Vincent Drake. They're the ones that turned me into a true defending machine. The four of us, along with Tim, Deadeye Jack, and Vietnam, led the defender world on an absolute rampage that spring and summer.

It's around this time that I finally officially joined TSP as a legislator, at the "recommendation" (read: probably cajoling but I forget) of Roavin and Nakari among others, and made a hasty and probably ill-advised run at MoMA barely two weeks after joining up. I hung around and participated for a while, managed to make Kris angry at me for attempting to bring the Tanzbola to TSP, hosted the 2017 defender awards, then flamed out of NS due to some old grudges/people who had harassed me rearing their heads and general exhaustion.

I guess we're in phase 3 now. I rejoined 10ki last september and resolved my differences with them, and came back to TSP officially just a week or so ago. I missed y'all and I'm excited to see what's ahead. While I don't plan on running for any government positions for a while due to an impending 10ki delegate run, we shall see what the future brings and I genuinely hope this stay will be more permanent.

Viva la TSP! o/

I joined NationStates in April 2016 'cos a friend (Land Without Shrimp, who finally gave up on the game late last year Sad ) told me about it and I thought it sounded cool. I founded in TSP and spent my first week or so just enjoying issues, not even really venturing onto the RMB, which I found intimidating at the time. This was to be the pattern of my interactions with the forum and Discord also, but on the forums Kris made me feel really welcome and then, when I had been on Discord a little while Roavin reached out to me to help him with the Coalition Day festival and my connection to the region (and to Ro) was cemented.

As, like Roavin, I had joined during the end of the Great Council, TSP was even more overwhelming than usual. I particularly remember Glen and Bel battling it out over competing charter drafts and thinking that it was fascinating and terrifying in equal measure. I think that tension drew me in and then lots of opportunities to write cool stuff kept me here.

Um, well this is gonna be a weird story. Back when I created this nation and was revisiting nationstates after my long absence I had just finished watching a ton of videos from a youtube artist named "poppy", at the time I was unaware of the mars argo lawsuit surrounding her, but I was intrigued by her video style, always having been a fan of avant garde art styles in music, videos, poetry, and basically everywhere. Because, at the time, I was a fan of her strange style of videos that were honestly almost disturbing (for example her video where she says I'm poppy for 10 minutes) I decided to create a nation name based on that on a whim. (I now find her content pretty boring, I only really liked it because it was different but it's pretty repetitive now)

However, someone already had that name, so a sane person would have just chosen another name right? Well, I'm far from sane so I thought, if I couldn't have that name, why not have that name in another language? Problem was, the nation name thingy didn't allow other languages that didn't use the same symbols as English so I decided that the way around this would be to type the name in a computer language, ascii. If you translate my nation name from ascii to english it translates to "I'm Poppy", I also liked the idea of having a strange name that was primarily numbers just because it seemed different and, as I said before, I generally like things with different vibes.

Of course now, I've dissociated my name from the youtube rando it was based off of originally and now just use the name "poppy" as my preferred name here and gameside because no one wants to say my actual nation name. I don't really remember it per se, I just use the auto fill thing when I start typing it on nationstates, but I can remember most of it, just from seeing it so much I can remember "073 039 ~~~ ~~~ 080 111 112 112 121".
Nation: 073 039 109 032 080 111 112 112 121
I'm more active gameside than here but either place I'd love to talk ^-^
