Word of the day: red!
The ancient Nakarin people distinguished between two types of red. There's eresh, an orangey clay red. The name is related to the word for clay (eret). Eresh can also mean south. There's also sarram, more of a crimson or blood red, and some shades of brown. It appears in many names of warriors and rulers. Sarram is associated with blood so much that it's considered inappropriate to use it for living animals or human. You could use sarram for a dyed cloth, a flower, or a gemstone, but to call someone's hair sarram would be mildly threatening.
Syaqin aren also has two words for red:

korru - Based on Kuru (= "blood") Snollandic kot - Also goes back to a connection to "blood" in Old Atlantic In both languages you can also talk about a bright or dark red shade. For that you add to the colour the prefix "ru-" (Atlantic)/"la-" (Snollandic) (Prefix of Surfeit) or the suffix "-ri" (A)/"-la" (S) (Prefix of Lack). So rukorru and lakot mean "dark red" (lit.: red-ful), korruri and kotla mean "bright red" (lit.: reddish).

Word(-ish thing) of the day: how do you ask for things politely?
There is no equivalent to the word 'please' in Syaqin aren, so polite requests are instead made using the subjunctive verb prefix du- (usually translated 'could') and the future imperfect tense. The subjunctive is usually used with the present tense, so the use of the future imperfect intensifies the subjunctive.
For example, 'please would you give me the book' would be Decsir Myonoti dulennilur? (lit. 'Could you be giving the book to me?') Syaqu aren doesn't have a single distinct word for science, although the word Yannin, 'knowledge' is commonly used in the same way. This can, of course, have many other meanings besides and would cover all subject areas in academia, not just those considered scientific. Some examples of Yanim, or areas of knowledge: Laddyanin - natural science Ukhrassyanin - forensic science Vaunyumassyanin - anthropology Vaunyudummyanin - physical anthropology Ukhrassyanin vaunyudummyanen - forensic anthropology Massyanin - social science Violuyanin - biology Elyanin - theology Hrajukharduyanin - volcanology As an interesting aside, there is also Syonuyanin, 'prophecy' (lit. Polite Questions
While there is a word for "Please" in both languages, which you might use when e.g. asking politely for going out of the way or for passing the salt, you normally just ask the question you want to ask in the standard way (which is the polite conjugation for the verb in the question) or - at least in Atlantic - if fitting in the very polite way (by using the very polite conjugation for the verb in the question). How to conjugate verbs is a difficult topic to cover in the WotD-section though, but there will be a new guide to Atlantic and Snollandic getting published soon. The words for "please" are by the way: mann (Atlantic) - goes back to the word many (= (to) bow down). In Old Atlantic tribes you normally bowed down when asking for something. This doesn't get done anymore, but therefore this tradition was translated into words. za (Snollandic) - goes back to the word za (= yes). As you can see, it's the same word. In Snollandic "please" is just repeated "yes" at the end of the question. You can imagine asking for a favor the Snollandic way in Austral like that: "Yesno* can you pass me the salt, yes?". (*"Yesno" is the general question particle used in the Atlantic languages to mark the following sentence as a general yes/no-question) Science Vanoda (in both languages)

Marco - war marceu - to wage war Marcoro - warrior All these words have existed in Syaqin aren for a long time, which is telling. They are all also, obviously, inspired by Mars and martial terms in general. I did this a lot with my earlier vocabulary and David J. Petersen would not be happy with me at all! In RP terms, these are considered to be coincidentally similar to the words which inspired them IRL. Tellingly, I've had to invent words for peace just now. I've back-derived them (one of my favourite linguistic hobbies these days...) from Syirana, which means 'heaven' and which is now derived from Syira, 'peace' and Anin, 'place'. Interestingly this has resulted in Erinoran having two words for place, which I've rationalised as follows: Vallano - this is the original word for place and appears in a lot of compound nouns to do with cities and other urban and 'human' constructions, e.g. Palevallano, 'park, garden' (lit. 'green place'). Vallano, therefore has the sense of a square or area of human habitation or activity. Anin - this currently only exists in compound form in two words, being Syirana and Vallano itself (Valleu is the verb to position or place and was when I first coined Vallano, so this has worked out very neatly indeed as it alreacy contained the idea of intentional human agency). It has the sense of a spiritual place, or the very essence of placeness. Though I haven't coined any, it would be used to describe spiritual realms, fantasy worlds, etc. (actually as a thought experiment, here's Middle-Earth in Syaqin aren: Ikhana, lit. 'between-realm') Also just coined for this: Savusyrio - inner peace. Savin is the word for ones inner-being, or self.
