THIS MONTH IN THAECIA

BY-ELECTIONS IN THE LEGISLATURE

This month several special elections were held for both chambers of Thaecia's bicameral legislature. In the House of Commons, the Peoples Carribean Union resigned after a recall attempt was mounted against him, and RPKW left the region, leaving two seats open, which were won by Dizgovzy and ASEAN Nations. Shortly after, in the Senate, Snowflame resigned, and Pap Sculgief won his seat in a landslide. Meanwhile in the House, Speaker Zanaana got into several successive fights with members of the House and the region over the pressure he applied to MPs with real-life committments to invest more time into NS. He resigned, and Dizgovzy was elected Speaker, while Antenion, the now-former Culture Minister, won the snap election for his seat. Emazia was then nominated to be the new Culture Minister.

A CHANGE IN RECRUITMENT POLICY

Also this month, the Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Korsinia and Foreign Affairs Minister The Bigtopia, decided to stop the region's aggressive recruiting strategies officially used by the region in favor of a more laid back approach, which would allow for a broader and more active foreign affairs policy.

LATE NITE FESTIVAL

Named after the long, open conversations which typically take place on the Thaecian Discord late at night, the Late Nite Festival is coming to you tomorrow (August 7th) and running until August 16th. People from all across NS are welcome to come to this event organized by leaders in Thaecia, the East Pacific, Europeia, and more! Activities and games will be held such as Skribbl.io, AtWar, Secret Hitler, and Minecraft. We hope to see some faces from TSP there, it'll be a lot of fun! Below is a statement from festival organizer Altys (Islonia on NationStates) inviting you all to come more cordially!

Remember last night's sky? That's right. On August 4th, for one night, your sky became a colourful mishmash. Sadly, yesterday night those beautiful colours had disappeared. Thinking it was a one-shot happening, your hype starts to go down. This evening you invited some friends to watch the 2nd season of the Umbrella Academy on Netflix, carefully muting your phone notifications to prevent anyone from spoiling you. As one of your friend asked to pause the episode for an urgent matter, your cat starts meowing at the patio door. Curious as you are, you decide to look at what she's meowing at. You stop marching 1m from the door. Your garden is illuminated in nine different colours. You open the door, get out the house and look at the sky. "Late Nite Festival" and the hundreds of stars are back! Before you can even think about what's up in here, another of your friend runs at you. She's been receiving countless notifications about some sort of happening one kilometer away. « Everyone's saying there's a festival tomorrow! And guess what, it's named 'Late Nite Festival'!! Just like what's in the sky.. wait.. did they really paint the SKY?! How?! » Intrigued by this, you and your friends, as well as a sizeable part of the metropolis NationStates decide to go to this mysterious festival.

CONSTITUTIONAL REFERENDUMS PASSED

In the same elections that saw Dizgovzy, ASEAN Nations, Pap Sculgief, and Antenion enter the legislature, several constitutional amendments passed their referendums, strengthening regional voting rights, reforming the impeachment procedure, and more.

REFORMS IN THE ROLEPLAY REALM

Roleplay staff have been hard at work reforming the Roleplay Realm, launching a new season the Nation RP, led by Cinema, and starting a brand new forum RP focused around the politics and government of Thaecia in a more realistic setting (led by Altys). Generally, foreigners are welcome to join both RPs, but must understand the rules and guidelines laid out by staff.

It's our second birthday on Friday and we're cordially inviting you to celebrate with us! Hope you'll join us on our big day, South Pacificans.  Heart

Hi!! Hope you're all doing great today! Here to announce you how Thaecia's 2nd birthday (22/01/2021) will go!  And without further ado, here's the schedule:
- At 8pm GMT I will reveal how the revamped economy will work. The Stonks Market will reopen on the 23rd (the day after).
- At 9pm GMT we will have a VC where several community members will host a small trivia on Thaecia's history, basically making a retrospective on our two years of existence. Expect it to become messy real quick as anecdotes and story times pop up.  And ofc it wouldn't be Thaecian history if it wasn't for the memes, so expect that too ehe.
Once we are finished with the trivia, the MoC's game channel will change to a time capsule input. For one week you will be able to send the description of what Thaecia might look like in one year. Graphics and memes are more than welcome!  This time capsule will be sealed and opened in 2022 so we can all laugh at how bad our predictions were, or praise the oracle that had predicted everything.
- At around 10pm to 10:30pm GMT we will play some games. Certainly Skribble.io, some Secret Hitler too and maybe some Among Us. And I tell you now, TMSus. - After that we'll go back to a more casual VC with Andy streaming games in the background.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask! Hope you will join us for this celebration!!  Note: In the trivia only the hosts will be able to talk to prevent a messy VC. Participants will answer in a text channel. Note²: The schedule is not fixed as it is likely for the history activity to go overtime.

Thaecia | Regional Update June 2022

Lupercalia Alliance between Thaecia and Lone Wolves United
Written By: Islonia

Following diplomatic discussions over recent weeks, the governments of Thaecia and Lone Wolves United drafted the Lupercalia Alliance. This agreement codifies the diplomatic and military relationship between two regions whom seen many interactions together and has been ratified by both regions this month. Considered as a natural progression of the relationship between our two regions, we look forward to future cooperation resulting from it.

You can find the full treaty here

The Treaty was passed by the Senate with 6 Ayes and 1 Abstention.

A New Vice Delegate Confirmed
Written By: Islonia | Edited by Toerana V
Following the removal of the Presidency, and its replacement by the Delegacy in April, the position of Vice-Delegate has been added in the Constitution. Bearing no power outside direct succession in lieu of vacancy of the Delegate itself, the position is not coveted by many--especially given the region's low interest in WA Affairs. Nevertheless, Lukaymmunki [Luka] is a relatively new face in Thaecian politics was elected Vice-Delegate on June 12th.

His nomination on June 6th was mostly met with understanding--Luka being one of the few people involved in WA-related debates operated by the Delegacy, even hosting some of them. The few against his nomination retained against him his lack of experience in Government, which the supporters of his nomination countered by pointing out the lack of need for experienced individuals in a relatively new position with few powers and obligations, which most of them viewed as a training ground, and a more prestigious one compared to recruiters or writers.

In a referendum where 36 citizens voted, 22 voted in favour of Luka's nomination, while 12 voted against.

The Vice-Delegate, serving under Delegate Sunipi, is to serve until he resigns or the end of the Delegacy's term, set during midterm elections, approximately two months from now.

Other Nominations from June
Written By: Toerana V
Following an extended period of inactivity, former Justice Minister Mardis was fired by Prime Minister Brototh and in their stead, Santa Marana, a sitting MP and Senior Deputy Speaker, was nominated to the position of Justice Minister to fill their seat. A complete newcomer to the Executive, they promised to make the department as efficient as possible during their confirmation debate by the Senate.

They were confirmed by the Senate on the 13th of June with 5 Ayes, 1 Nay, and 1 Abstention.

During June, Rayekka was also renominated to continue to serve as the region's Electoral Commissioner. Their confirmation passed the House of Commons with a vote of 10 Ayes and 1 Abstention.

Finally, The Islamic Country of Honour was nominated to serve as the region's second Deputy Justice. They were nominated by Prime Minister Brototh on the 29th of May, but by request of the nominee their confirmation hearing only began on the 29th of June. They were confirmed by the House of Commons with 7 Ayes, 2 Nays, and 3 Abstentions.

Culture, Culture, Culture!
Written By: Toerana V
From the Announcement a Thaecian Debate Night, and the first season of the region's Gameside Roleplay on the 23rd and 24th of June respectively, the region's cultural activities have seen a sharp spike in frequency and popularity. Games Nights have been held every Wednesday and Saturday, hosted by Ministers or the Prime Minister, seeing Thaecians participate in a range of browser based games (but not the political simulator kind). Alongside this, The Ambis has begun to run a Question of the Day on the RMB, and polls have come back with a revenge, being run with some frequency again. So far, we've had Game Nights with Kahoot, Skribbl.io and Gartic Phone, to much success!

Coming up this week, we have a Movie Night, hosted by Vice Delegate Lukaymmunki, on Saturday. This will see us watching Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith!

On the following day, the Sunday, Games Night will return with an evening game of Cards Against Humanity. It'll be hosted at 8pm and is hosted by Minister of Communications Toerana V.

If either of these upcoming events appeal to you, please do pop along to the Thaecian discord and say hi! Everyone is welcome.

The Calendar can be found here.

Thaecia | Regional Update July 2022

The 10th Thaecian General Election
Written By: Brototh

Thaecia has now held the region's tenth general election! This is an important milestone for us and to start we would like to thank everyone who has helped make this region possible over the past three and a half years. The elected positions of Prime Minister (the Head of Government and State), MP (x11) and Senator (x7) were open. This is the first general election to not feature the position of President since its abolition and reformation into World Assembly Delegate, elections for which will be held in two months. 46 ballots were cast for the Senate, and 45 for the House and Prime Minister.

The Prime Ministerial race saw only two candidates run, the Brototh/Islonia ticket on their re-election campaign after serving the previous four months, and Saltmore, a relative newcomer who has not before held office. There was little to no campaigning from either side for this election, although Brototh did conduct an interview with Rayekka detailing their ambitions for a more domestically focused Thaecian government in the coming four months.

The results came as follows, the winning candidate reaching a majority in the first round:

Brototh (Cinema) / Islonia (Altys) - 28 Votes (62.2%) [Winner] [Re-elected]
Saltmore - 17 Votes (37.8%)

Alongside the Prime Ministerial election were the elections for Congress. Congress in Thaecia is a bicameral elected legislature comprising 11 seats in the House of Commons and 7 seats in the Senate. The House serves a 2 month term and the Senate serves a 4 month term.

The campaign trail was focused again on the issue of whether or not the elected legislature should be abolished in favour of a direct democracy, with the region's second largest party, the Thaecia Globalist Party [TGP] recently turning around to support a middle ground where one chamber is made of all citizens and the other is made of elected representatives. The largest party in the region, the Freedom Party of Thaecia [FREE], continues to oppose all forms of a direct democracy, whilst the region's smallest issue-based party, the Party for Thaecian Democracy [PTD], continues to support the total abolition of a representative democracy in favour of a direct one.

Other issues of the election were on the wider activity of Thaecia and the rate of recruitment in the region, as well as the status of political parties in Thaecian politics. Despite this, parties were still extremely important in the election, with all but two candidates winning candidates belonging to some form of political party in the region. This election saw a lot of members of the House of Commons switch chambers and stand for the Senate instead.

In the House election, 16 candidates contested 11 seats. The results were as follows:

The Ambis (FREE) [Incumbent]
Santa Marana (FREE) [Incumbent]
Shrekistani(FREE) [Incumbent]
Colonix (FREE)
Mardis (FREE)
Sunipi (TGP) [Incumbent]
New Central Iowa (TGP) [Incumbent]
Haha Grape(TGP)
Lukaymmunki (TGP)
Snalland (PTD) [Incumbent]
Toerana V (IND) [Incumbent]

In the Senate election, 9 candidates contested 7 seats. The results were as follows:

Marvinville (FREE)
Sevae (TGP) [Incumbent]
Gifty (FREE) [Incumbent]
Snowflame (FREE)
Solittus (TGP)
Angypt (CTC) [Incumbent]
Saltmore (IND)

Chamber Leader Elections
Written By: Solittus

Each chamber has now elected a leader to lead them for the next term. In the House, three candidates put themselves forward for the position of Speaker of the House of Commons. These three candidates were: Santa Marana, Lukaymmunki and Snalland. The vote seemed fairly balanced and the result unclear, until both Santa Marana and Lukaymmunki withdrew from the contest to support Snalland for the Speaker. Therefore, Snalland is now Speaker of the House of Commons. In the Senate, a single candidate, Snowflame, stood unopposed for election and was duly elected as Chairman of the Senate.

A New Cabinet
Written By: Solittus

The new Prime Minister, Brototh, has made new Cabinet nominations over the last few weeks. She stated that "I have chosen the people with the most vision and best plans for their respective Ministry and who I believe will be able to carry out the role in the best manner." These nominations have now been voted on by the Senate. The following ministers have been confirmed by the Senate:

  • Marvinville as Minister of Domestic Affairs, with 6 ayes and 1 abstention.
  • Altys (Islonia) as Minister of Foreign Affairs, with the Senate voting unanimously in favour.
  • Toerana V as Minister of Cultural Affairs, with 5 ayes and 2 nays.
  • Solittus as Minister of Communications, with 5 ayes, 1 nay and 1 abstention.
  • Cerdenia as Minister of Legal Affairs, with 6 ayes and 1 abstention.
Only one nomination failed to be approved by the Senate: the nomination of The Ambis as Minister of Legal Affairs. The Senate rejected this nomination with 2 members voting aye, 3 voting nay, and 2 abstaining. The Senate believed that the candidate was inexperienced and that his vision of maintaining the "status quo" was not the best way forward. Shortly after, Brototh nominated Cerdenia for this role, stating that "he is extremely experienced and has done very well in the post in the past and I am confident in his abilities." The Senate approved this nomination in the last few days, and Cerdenia has now become Minister of Legal Affairs.

The post of Minister of Defence is still vacant, with no one yet nominated for the position.

Recruitment Update
Written By: Marvinville

As of July 29, Thaecia’s population has increased by 54 nations since the beginning of the month. Not only that, but Thaecia’s population has increased by 79 nations since July 7, which is when Thaecia has recorded its lowest population at 328 nations for the previous 310 days. Thaecia’s population has increased in 17 out of the 22 days since July 7 due to our recruitment efforts. And there's not just our population increasing by 54 nations this month; Thaecia has also passed the 400 nation mark for the first time in 75 days.

Ministry of Culture Update
Written By: Toerana V

All throughout July the Ministry of Culture under Angypt, and later Toerana V, has begun running games and events in Thaecia's discord, and occasionally on Thaecia's Regional Message Board. Towards the beginning of July, this saw games of Kahoot, Cards Against Humanity and Gartic Phone run throughout the week, as well as seeing a return of a Thacian favourite in a Hunger Games.

As the month progressed, Snalland hosted a Thaecian Debate Night on the Regional Message Board, and Altys hosted a very successful game of Stellaris, that lasted for over 6 and a half hours and saw a surprisingly large amount of time paused in debate.

Continuing this trend, and as we head into August, games will continue, as per our Calendar for the first two weeks. All events are hosted in our discord, for the time being, and we hope to see you there! Keep an eye out on the discord events channel for news, information (and more likely than not a healthy dose of nonsense from Prime Minister Brototh).
