Unified applications: let's try this again

I thought they were the opposite of that, so I can now see I completely misunderstood what you were saying.

I'm open to what you're suggesting
Minister of Foreign Affairs
General of the South Pacific Special Forces
Ambassador to Balder
Former Prime Minister and Minister of Defense

Are there any other thoughts/comments/ideas/concerns/complaints/developments re: this system?
Terms are short and this seems like a relatively easy way for us to move in a progressive direction for applicant streamlining.

Suggestions so far:
  • Change checkboxes to radio buttons to select which ministry is being applied to.
  • Add a text field for the applicant to describe what area of involvement they desire (eg, MoE: Cards, SPSF Tidal Force), available options should be in the OP overview.
  • Add a text field for a "Have you been banned in another region? If so, please explain the circumstances of the ban." question.

It appears, outside of this, we'll need to get some answers from Roavin about how they form is expected to behave.

I’ll message Roavin at some point, these are good suggestions. The checkbox vs radio button thing depends, I think, on how the form behaves. If someone can apply to multiple ministries at once without having to submit multiple forms that might be ideal for the applicant, but I’ll have that conversation with him and report back.

Yeah, I don't doubt that the idea for combining them was done in mind for the convenience of the applicant. There might be some problems where if the applicant writes down that their area of interest is like "Reports" or something that's not in the thread OP and ministers have to try to puzzle through what the response means, especially when it's not clear which ministry the comment was directed at. If that's not a serious concern, then perhaps it isn't worth the hassle.

I have one more proposed addition because it's the amalgamation of two questions in the MoFA application form but could have some relevance in other ministries:

Do you periodically visit the NationStates Gameplay subforum or Discord server?
  • Yes, both
  • Yes, only the subforum
  • Yes, only the Discord server
  • No
4× Cabinet minister /// 1× OWL director /// CRS member /// SPSF

Ok - update from Roavin:

Re checkboxes - the previous cabinet and admins determined that checkboxes were better because you don't want the applicant filling out the form umpteen times. That's sort of where I am in this discussion.

The forms get posted as individual threads in the welcome center, and we can also send PMs or emails if we wish.

I think with the forms getting posted as threads, it's not too much to ask for ministers to check each new thread that gets posted for things that are relevant to them. I dont' think that will cause a whole lot of mess - everyone with something on the form just needs to make sure they keep up with applications.

Sounds good to me. Each form being posted as a thread rather than a reply does solve that dilemma.

Presumably we can still have the form originate from a pinned master application overview thread, where the OP can contain all the information necessary for applicants.

Yeah, that's my thought too. It's absolutely the most sensible way to organize this.

We are going to be updating some of the language to reflect current jobs in the ministries. Some of the information on the form is a bit out of date - but it shouldn't be any different than what's on your individual applications now.

Also: We are tentatively scheduling the forum to go down for maintenance around the same time as the Cabinet meeting on 9 July.
