OCT. 2021 CABINET ELECTION
Minister of Culture

Senior Editor James Halpert sat down with all candidates for Minister of Culture to know more about them, their journey in the South Pacific and their ideas for the Ministry of Culture.

Minskiev

Thank you for agreeing to this conversation. I suppose the first question, particularly since you are relatively new to the region, is who are you?

i suppose thats a fair question yeah
as my nick would suggest im minskiev although many know me as walrus
im the current wa officer of the rejected realms primarily, but ive also passed wa resolutions, been the outreach (like engagement) officer, speaker of its assembly, staff for like 6 to 12ish months, etc etc
for tsp im culture, owl, engagement, and media staff though :p

I'm guessing then that something in particular drew you to TSP?

yeah the cabinet in august was based as sh*t and i liked all of them so that influenced my decision
but tsp in general is democratic and defender and i share those views, so

Out of curiosity, is that the image that we as a region project? I mean, "democratic and defender" as opposed to the traditional "party region"?

i dont think its unreasonable to say tsp is quite openly democratic and defender
so yes, to me at least when i joined, that is the image you (tsp) projected

You're running for Minister of Culture, so presumably you have some ideas about how to harness that image towards the cultural development of the region.

yes, i plan to host interregional events with similarly democratic and/or similarly defender regions

What would those events involve? I mean, say one was being held right now, what would it look like?

I mean there's of course the liberty gala that's actually going on right now however
wargames, game days, rp, and friendly competition would likely be prevalent
itd be open to (almost) everyone though
bc there simply isnt a good reason for it not to be

Would it be fair to say then that you would want MoC staff to be proactive and creative about the projects that are being planned?

Well yeah that should be a given lol
i think doing a wide array of events would certainly be creative

You've currently in the MoC staff. How do you think things have been this past term, particularly compared to how you would hope things are during a hypothetical Minskiev ministry?

I wouldn't say it's doing too great. There's tetr.io wednesdays, theme thursdays, and..? I'd like to actually get people thinking about Culture and not just finding a new image or possibly playing tetris once a week

In the sense of having individual events as opposed to a comprehensive cultural policy/agenda?

Sure, I wouldn't say 2 things a week is a comprehensive cultural agenda.

It's probably time to wrap things up, but first I want to ask about something that you mention in your campaign. You say that you want to close the "onsite/offsite gap". You mention steps that you want to take, such as gameside events, advertising, etc. What do you think of the gap itself though? Is it just a matter of more notifications and events? Or are there steps that all officials should take, in a more comprehensive manner, to address that gap?

Well, let's see. Culture has two events: Theme Thursday, which you can't really do onsite, and tetr.io, which almost certainly doesn't have the link posted on the RMB. So that's not good. Foreign Affairs perhaps by nature isn't really needed to be connected to TSP's gameside, and the same goes for Defense. Media is fine with just posting articles etc. And then there's engagement, which is rather intrinsically gameside-attached. I think it's good and all to connect offsite and onsite more closely, but it's by far the most important for the Culture ministry to do so, to me.

Some have suggested in the past that government officials should be more active on the RMB and make sure that gamesiders know them. Is that something that should be worked on?

Yes, gameside should know the regional government and its officials

Thank you for taking the time to have this discussion! I want to invite all voters to review Minskiev's campaign in the link below and to ask them all the questions that you can think of, so that you are informed come the Voting Period.

Doge

We are back with our October 2021 discussion series. This time we have Doge, candidate for Minister of Culture. It’s good to have you here. Thank you for agreeing to participate in this discussion series.

?

I believe this is your third run for Minister of Culture. What has changed since those two runs that would make you better prepared to be Minister?

It's been about 3 months since I last ran for MoC so I've learned a lot more from my first 2 campaigns. I've gotten some more ideas, and new actions for the API have come out that allows for MoC stuff to be more automated, and I've taken advantage of that stuff (ex: RMB posting, I made a QOTD bot. We could use this for would you rather, fact of the day, etc).

On that note, what would be your approach to the Ministry of Culture in terms of selecting and scheduling activities? How would you decide what is a good investment for the region?

I would work with MoM statistics to poll some region members on if they would want to see this or this, and if they would participate in an event about this or a event themed around this
That way we would be able to view what would get people engaged, entertained, and excited. We would also be able to have a rough estimate on how many people may show up for an event if we ever decided to do it.
For scheduling, if we do decide to do something, we would poll people on when they could attend the event (without spoiling what it is). That would only work for single events (e.g. movie night or something). For larger events, we would probably do a simple survey asking people for their timezone so we could plan out each event inside of the larger event so that the most amount of people could attend.

You mention cooperation with the Ministry of Media. Do you envision opportunities for cooperation with other ministries as well?

Yes. We would cooperate with MoFA for interregional events, and possibly with MoD if anyone was interested in wargames (if we even needed MoD; which I'd doubt).

You have said in previous campaigns that more activities should be held gameside and away from this server. If that is a view that you still hold, what do you have in mind in terms of gameside activities and cooperation with the Local Council?

The LC are usually the people who the RMB trusts the most, so if we were going to start holding large game-side events then we'd probably ask the LC to get the word out on the RMB/make a poll about it (because polls are great)

What about roleplay? Generally the community is fairly self-sufficient, but do you think there is a role that MoC can play regarding regional roleplay?

We could work with the RP moderation to do events (like if an asteroid exploded over just a couple kilometers off the ground). Otherwise, there's really not much you could do in terms of RP.

Before we wrap things up, would you like to discuss any particular issue?

Waffles are best but cake and pie are a close second in my book ?

I'm sure you can expect Penguin to have some words with you about your ranking of pie.

Lol
Thanks for hosting SPINN

Thank you again for participating. I encourage all voters to check our Doge's campaign campaign campaign and ask them questions there so that you can cast an informed vote.
