Shibe Mountain-Doge Land Bay Territorial Disputes Continue
October 27th, 2021

The current map of Doge Land's republics. The striped area in the center is the disputed land.

More debates in the Doge Landian Senate continue as the land dispute in Central Doge Land goes on with no resolution, 2 years and counting. Senators from the United Bepis Republic are attempting to get the dispute done, however, both sides want the full area of land and nothing else. Dividing the land in half has been proposed, however, they have rejected that offer.

For context, this land was traditionally owned by the Mountainians however in the 1500s the Doge Landians came and took the land. Now, the Mountainians want their original land back, and Mountainian nationalists are taking this opportunity to lobby for Mountainian secession. However, Doge Landian and Beponan unionists are fighting back, stating that a Mountainian secession would be in violation of the constitutional agreement.

Many in the disputed area are fleeing in that the conflict will eventually get violent and civil war will break out. However, Beponan peacekeepers are assuring the area that no civil war will break out on their watch, and if it does, that they will stay neutral and allow asylum for refugees in the United Bepis Republic.

Physical Attacks in the Senate between Mountainians and Doge Landians
October 31st, 2021

DOGE LAND CITY, DL - The Mountainian-Doge Landian land dispute has now begun to get physical. Not in the contested area however; in Doge Land City. The senators for each republic have now started to fight each other in the Senate. Many are considering the peaceful resolution of this conflict a lost cause, and the United Bepis Republic has begun stockpiling troops at the border of the disputed land, ready to stop any potential spillover.

The Mountainians, back home, are hellbent on their independence and taking back their native land. Many Doge Landian anti-unionists are calling for the readoption of the long-gone language, Shibe Bay, or at least a modern adaption of the dead language. Towns on the border of the dispute are filling up with refugees as hundreds of thousands pour out of towns and villages from across the disputed area.

In a leaked document, it appeared as if the Mountainian government was planning to expand northwards and "create an empire to rival the Doge Landians," as the document stated. Many in Doge Land fear that a Mountainian capture of Doge Land may be coming, however, the government of Doge Land is making sure that these fears are calmed and that the Mountainians are made sure to be silenced.

Mountaintonian Independence Referendum Results
November 18th, 2021

The division between the three republics. The United Bepis Republic and the Doge Land Bay Republic make up Doge Land, while the newly independent Shibe Mountain Republic has had the majority of its land taken.

Mountaintonians took to the streets in their respective cities in celebration of their new independence. They have lost a majority of their land, however, a strong nationalist spirit has taken the population by storm and the Mountaintonians are happy with anything they have.

A referendum was held over the past week to determine the future of Mountaintonian counties. A majority of the eastern counties voted to join Doge Land Bay, with the exception of the ethnic Beponan northeast, who opted to join the United Bepis Republic, and some southeastern Mountaintonian provinces opted to stay with Mountainton, as they were populated by majority ethnic Wenlandians and a majority of Wenlandians identify as Mountaintonian as well.

Counties that could not reach a decision were divided based on ethnicity statistics from the most recent census data. This has created an enclave for the Shibe Mountain Republic into the Doge Land Bay Republic.

We will still report on events inside of the newly independent Shibe Mountain Republic, despite it not being part of Doge Land. Doge Land-wide events pre-split are expected to continue serving the greater Shibe area (including the Shibe Mountain Republic and Doge Land).

New Islands Colonized by Doge Land
December 19th, 2021

EAST SHIBE, SI - In a routine navy exercise, a large island was found that was far away from Doge Land, but presumably held many natural resources. The island was in between the countries of Kaha'i and New Colradia. The Doge Landian government sent out ships with enough people and materials to, hopefully, start a new colony there. The ships split off into two different groups, one founded East Shibe and one founded West Shibe. Upon landing, a semi-advanced native civilization was found on the island, in the city they called Kabaou.

For now, the tribe and the colonists have gotten along, but if history means anything, this may not last long.

Mountaintonian Government Changes
January 15th, 2022

Months after the Mountainton-Doge Land split, tensions are still high between the young nation and its old ruler. Last week, Mountainton elected a right-wing national conservative party, the Freedom Party of Mountainton (Нячюаж Еалююб уав Ияжвижм, НЕИ) breaking yet another agreement in the treaty between Mountainton and Doge Land. The original agreement stated that Mountainton and Doge Land will stay close in political alignment, with the intention being that both would be democratic socialist, just like Doge Land's stance at the signing of the treaty.

With this new party change, Doge Land and Mountainton are now on opposite ends of the political compass, causing lots of tension between the nations and their governments. It is hard to tell what may happen next, but Doge Land's military is getting ready for any possible situations.

Mountainton Reintegration Deal
June 8th, 2022

After months of negotiation, a deal has finally been worked out between the governments of Doge Land and Mountainton. If this deal passes in the Mountaintonian High Council and the Doge Landian Senate, then over the course of 6 months both nations will be fully reintegrated into each other. The "republic" system of Doge Land will be abolished and replaced with a more balanced provincial system at the end of the 6 months.

Initial polls show that a majority of the population of both nations support reintegration of Mountainton into Doge Land. In the just over 6 months since Mountainton's independence, the nations have both realized that they can't survive without the other. Doge Land fell on economic hardships since their main source of revenue was the resources in the mountains of Mountainton, and Mountainton was never able to get off its feet without the wide range of nations the Doge Landian ports have access to.

The deal is expected to pass in the Mountaintonian High Council and the Doge Landian Senate tonight when their session starts. You can view the Mountaintonian High Council session tonight on BE2 at 6:00 PM and the Doge Landian Senate on DLO at 6:30 PM.

Mountainton Reintegration Deal Passed in Doge Land and Mountainton
June 11th, 2022

The Mountainton Reintegration Deal has been the target of many negative comments over the past couple of days in Mountainton. However, after days of filibustering and throwing chairs at each other, the deal passed 13-12 in the Mountaintonian High Council, to much disappointment from the Mountaintonian population.

One of the main reasons cited for the councillors' eventual acceptance of the deal was the current situation in Ryccia; in a hypothetical situation where the deal did not pass and Ryccia went to invade Mountainton, they would not have much defense. They also did not have the market that Doge Land had; even after leaving through referendum and being separate for 6 months, Mountainton only had a few nations recognize it, which led to economic stagnation for the new nation.

The deal passed much less theatrically in Doge Land, passing 249-1 in the early morning hours of the 9th. The one person who opposed it led an eight hour filibuster until he collapsed at the stand from exhaustion.

In other news, a new proposal in the Doge Landian Senate will ban talking for more than 2 hours at a time during Senate proceedings.
