Prime Minister
#1

Time we discuss this.

Ideally, we'd move all the government tasks from the Delegate to the Prime Minister and have the WAD be elected from the WA votes of the gameside region, since that's who they service.

Ideas?

In general, I'm down with this.

However, we can't just leave it open to the WA nations at large. Whoever the WAD would need to be someone trusted. I'd be supportive of something like this in a "constitutional monarchy" sort of way.

I'm against. Letting people just pick the Delegate so long as their a WA member? No I don't so.

I've been thinking about this for a while. On the face, it seems like a good idea that gets rid of a vulnerable entry point (delegate transfers). The difficulty is in finding that person to trust, and then finding a role for this Prime Minister-ish position.

The Prime Minister would be the head of state, essentially the Delegate, but without any actual WA requirements.

With regards to the monarchy idea, I'm not opposed. If we go the democratic route, I'd suggest that the CSS run a check of all nominees and remove those that pose a security threat.

I've been thinking about this and I think any of the members of the CSS would be fine choices. As of now, they are already in the line of succession and they needed 75% of the region's approval to be put on the committee.

The PM could certainly have most of the powers the delegate would have now (except the WA vote). As someone who was a PM (well VP back in the day) ... there is the problem of what they *actually* do. The role can be narrow or wide ... but ultimately it up to that person.

Really though, the delegate position acts in the same way now. See the last election for a debate over the roles.

Thinking aloud here: Another option *might* be to elevate the Chair of the Assembly to the "head of government." This would make that role more than simply processing.

I think the broader issue I'm trying to get at is there is no real "head of government" role in our region. The Delegate may be the "leader" of the Cabinet, but it's a leader among equals. When I think of a Prime Minister, I think of somebody who commands the agenda and is the actual boss of their cabinet ministers. I don't know if we've ever had that in TSP. That may be another debate altogether, though.

We did when we had the Prime Minister position before. I believe.

Yeah -- the previous set up — or the intention at least — was for the PM to be the head of the government. Everyone was still elected ... but the PM was the high office ... as delegate (essentially) is now.

I oppose, this would open up an opportunity for this region's enemies.
