2016 in America
#271

I do agree with his stance on gun control, and I must admit some of his positions on economic issues are interesting, but there is some stuff that really bugs me. Especially these three:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Carson..._positions Wrote:Carson describes himself as pro-life, has equated abortion to slavery,[54] and supports overturning the 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade.[55][56] He opposes access to abortion in cases of incest or rape,[56] but would consider allowing its use if a woman's health is in danger.[56]

After undercover videos recorded by an anti-abortion group showed Planned Parenthood officials discussing the donation of tissue from aborted fetuses for medical research,[57] Carson condemned the videos and argued that fetal tissue had no use in medical research, stating: "there's nothing that can't be done without fetal tissue."[58] Subsequently, a blog identified research that Carson himself had performed and published using tissue from aborted fetuses, specifically "human choroid plexus ependyma and nasal mucosa from two fetuses aborted in the ninth and 17th week of gestation."[59] Carson sought to resolve the apparent conflict by stating to the Washington Post: "If you're killing babies and taking the tissue, that's a very different thing than taking a dead specimen and keeping a record of it".[60]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Carson..._positions Wrote:In an October 2015 interview, Carson stated: "I actually have something I would use the Department of Education to do. It would be to monitor our institutions of higher education for extreme political bias and deny federal funding on that basis."[77][78] On the AP U.S. History curriculum, Carson said it overemphasizes wrongdoing by the United States: "I think most people, when they finish that course, they’d be ready to go sign up for ISIS."[79]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Carson..._positions Wrote:In a March 2015 interview with Chris Cuomo, Carson stated that homosexuality was "absolutely" a choice, claiming that "a lot of people go into prison straight, and when they come out, they're gay".[100] In a Facebook post, Carson later apologized, saying that he "[does] not pretend to know how every individual came to their sexual orientation."[101][102]

As long as the eventual Republican nominee is not Trump, I will be satisfied.

As long as the next president is not a republican, I don't care who they nominate. The U.S. has enough crazy people in power as it is.

Since Eisenhower, Democrats and Republicans have succeeded each other after the second term of a President with the exception of two (Jimmy Carter and George H. W. Bush). If this holds up, the pendulum will swing in the momentum of the Republicans in 2016.

What, that the Holocaust could have been prevented if the Jews had had guns?

The holocaust isn't exactly a good example for this. Or anything else here, for that matter. The American Revolution, which, last I checked, was a pretty important part of U.S. history, involved in most of its aspects this matter of gun ownership and being able to defend oneself from a corrupt government. After that, it became more of a cultural thing than political, but the argument still holds water.

Right! The Holocaust is irrelevant! But Ben Carson continues to talk about it!

Does he? I never watched any of his debates, and the wikipedia article only goes so far.
