#11

Here's our polls: https://www.nationstates.net/page=polls/...th_pacific

RMB did vote on an Elections Act amendment, but not that one.

The government of the South Pacific can't simply keep saying "If it happens in the region it's nothing to do with us" and expect to remain the government of the South Pacific. It's not realistic.

I'm not sure anyone is saying that. Glen said that this should be left in the hands of the Local Council, because Local Councillors are likely to have a better idea of how Local Council elections should be handled. I'm not sure how devolving decision making to the Local Council to address a matter that is clearly more in their wheelhouse is promoting separation, so much as trusting and empowering the Local Council. Why would the Assembly legislate on a matter the Local Council is more competent to address?

Because the Assembly has otherwise declared that that it has sole legislative authority, and elections are addressed in a constitutional law. This isn't an issue where people can have it both ways; either the Assembly is the sole legislative authority and matters like this remain under its purview, or the Assembly isn't the sole legislative authority and the Local Council/in-game region can address certain matters by itself - but if that's the case we're going to have to genuinely address the issue.

OR, something equally possible:

The Assembly is the legislature of the forum.
The LC is the government of the RMB.

Federalism isn't that hard!

I'm pretty sure the Coalition is the government of TSP, not quite sure how creating a separate non-integrated government for the in-game region is going to work....

I don't know how to get the point across more clearly.

And I'm not sure how many times I can explain that a federal relationship between one region and it's government is utterly absurd.

Of course it's absurd, because that's not really the idea Tounge

Idea is - the region has its government that does one thing, there is the overarching government that does other things, and they work together symbiotically.

Then Glen should stop talking about a federal relationship, and instead acknowledge the Local Council as what it actually is; a distinct part of a single government, that consists of multiple branches and parts working together.

Not to start crossing testy threads or anything ... but I feel like federalism only works if there are multiple independent smaller governments involved.

I mean, I get what both sides are saying. But, I think the rub is because there's only one but kinda two governments.

Which is my point; the Local Council isn't and can't be a "separate" government, as there's only one TSP. What it is is a distinct part of this government, with a mix of duties/responsibilities and a focus on the in-game region.
