Drall for MoRA
#1

I don’t have any fancy gifs or clichéd opening statements. Sorry.

I will share a brief story though. I first came here a little less than a year ago, and the first thing that struck me was the open, energetic, and genuinely fun community. I got involved, and before I knew it I found myself running for Local Council. There, I’ve helped to write laws, run the daily news, host fun games and polls, and maintain a fun and welcoming atmosphere, just like the one that got me interested. Two things have really stuck out to me though, and those are the events and journalism. And that is what will form the core of my campaign.
  • Journalism – for the past few terms, journalism has suffered. Yes, we have polls run around elections, and the occasional articles are released, but the traditional, analytical style of journalism that was once so classically TSP has faded. And we need to bring it back. We have had a few strong articles, but for the most part, we’ve struggled to publish major, newspaper style articles on a continual basis. We absolutely have the talent, the people, and the drive to create pieces of journalistic brilliance. At this point, it’s a matter of successfully organizing this, holding people to deadlines, and doing whatever we need to get quality articles out on time.
  • Gameside – lets tie things back to gameside, shall we? While gameside is arguably the Local Council and Delegate’s purview, the MoRA still needs to collaborate with gameside. Not only does this entail things like Z-Day and N-Day, but also the interregional and intraregional events we hold. And while in the past these are always advertised on the RMB, I feel that we need to bring them to the RMB. Now, I know what you’re thinking–you can’t bring forums and discord onto the RMB! But you can bring the games, the themes, and the fun, and that’s what I intend to do.
  • Events – this is really the heart of Regional Affairs. We’ve had a some very successful events, and these are absolutely success that I want to continue. We have a great team of people, and that is absolutely the key to continuing our vibrant and fun events. I do have one change though. I’ve noticed that for a while now, our event scene tends to be dominated by festivals. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love festivals. But I also think that there’s room for more than just that. The idea of a Doctor Who themed quiz bowl was tossed around recently, and that is definitely something that I want to make happen. Lastly, we’ve lately had some overlap between events. That is something I’d like to address further in my next point.
  • Communication – this is the big one. Without communication, everything else is largely impossible. A major issue often seen with the Ministry is how vast and hard to manage it is. Communication is the palm oil here. I absolutely support @Roavin’s plan to institute a Cabinet-wide calendar for all events, something that is publicly visible to everyone, to ensure that members of each Ministry who want to contribute are never left out of the loop again.
With that, I open the floor to questions. Fire away!

What background and credentials do you have that make you qualified to serve as MoRA?

You've been in the RA server for at least the last six months. How have you contributed to the two things that really stick out to you- specifically journalism and regional events? Which of these have you taken a lead on? Can you point to projects that you led and developed?

Then, thinking of the past few RA events such as WAF or TLA - how did you provide support and help make these events a success?

Next, you mentioned the regional events - what role did you play in either Z-Day or N-day?

The communication plan you mentioned is one proposed by someone else. What steps will you personally be taking to create a more inclusive atmosphere and how have you shown that ability in your past roles?

I believe the vast majority of my background and credentials come from my service on the Local Council. As I mentioned in my campaign, I've run games, polls, and for the past few months have continued one of the most popular news sources around, SlowNews. All of this serves as an excellent background for the work involved as MoRA. I've also done some work in the Ministry, writing and advising a bit on a couple of events. However, the bulk of my background comes from nearly 8 months on the Local Council.

Thanks for the question!

As I said in my response to Kris, I've written a couple articles for the Ministry and offered some advice on a couple events. I don't recall the particulars, but I believe I spent N-Day and Z-Day offering advice and direction on the RMB, an organizational role, and of course playing! Again, I firmly believe the bulk of my experience in event planning comes from my time on the Local Council.

Fully adopting the calendar is, as I've said, a necessity. Beyond that, during my time on the Local Council I liked to reach out to people and try and get them interested in areas I thought they'd be good at/encourage them to try new things and aspects of the region. I've always found this style of directly reaching out to people to be a better method of gathering involvement than merely pinging their roles (though I'll absolutely still do that).

At the moment, the RA Discord is in part structured almost like a job board, in that there are roles assigned to people depending on the things they could do (for example Proofreader, Creative, Journalist, etc.); would you keep this system and if so change anything about it?

Your nomination and acceptance to run for MoRA came in the middle of a discussion in #legislators-lounge. You and Somyrion were in disagreement with Escade, then still the sole nominee. In the middle of this discussion, Somyrion nominated you, and one minute later you accepted. Why should voters feel confident about your prospective performance when ostensibly you are running on a reactionary whim?

A few terms ago there was an announcement that the Journal would transition from issues to individual articles. It has barely published since then. What is your vision for the Journal? What kind of pieces should it write? Would you seek to top the Max interview with something else?

Farengeto mentions in his campaign his intent of bringing back non-festival events like the Ejection Contest. What do you think of this idea?

Apologies for not answering sooner, I've had a busy few days and been feeling sick.

I really like the current structure of role in discord; it's a great way to divide people into who is skilled at and wants to do what. Definitely planning on keeping it.

The idea of running for MoRA has been simmering in the back of my mind for a little while. While yes, I made the decision to run during that debate, I think that debate was more the final piece that made me want to run rather than the sole reason. That said, I absolutely believe that I have the necessary background to serve as Minister.
