Assembly-Cabinet discussion on conference attendance
#81

We can bring that Euro, but I just want to remind everybody that the ultimatum is specifically that we cannot host the Independence Conference if we go to Lazarus' Regional Sovereignty Conference. Just want to make sure the Assembly knows the parameters.

If we eventually do bring this to Europeia, I think it would be important to emphasize that it was a regional decision and that everyone had a say in it, instead of just us having a closed Cabinet meeting without informing the Assembly.

Has there been good faith negotiation from TSP w/r/t compromising on this point? I wonder how inflexible this ultimatum really is, and I would encourage some interaction to try and protect TSP's ability to host the Independent conference. It seems like something good to be a part of and obviously something good to host.

I have talked several times now with Europeia, always receiving the same response about how we surely must have agreed to attend the Lazarus conference to keep attention away from the Independence Conference and that we should withdraw from the former to show our "commitment to independence". While I cannot predict the exact reaction of Europeia, I believe all that can be done to let them see our perspective has already been done, without success.

It's not my opinion - I'm in the conference now and I haven't found that the discussion revolves around anything that Belschaft or Cormac is speculating it is revolving around.

I still would encourage you or Glen-Rhodes to sign in so that you can see the discussions that are taking place - and not judge the conference based on speculation from people who don't like the conference.

Basically, they're lying that this is a war plans discussion - we're currently discussing regional sovereignty, security and how we can prevent war in the future. It fits squarely into the announced theme for the conference.

I avoided signing in earlier today since I wasn't sure of what the Assembly would decide. Since it appears the region agrees on the overall idea that we should attend (whether we participate in the entire conference or only part of it is another matter), would the Assembly find it acceptable for either me or Glen to sign in and verify for ourselves what type of discussions are being held?

I have taken a look at the Conference Floor threads in Lazarus. Like was mentioned in the schedule we have, the Osiris-Lazarus War is being discussed, but I do feel like three clarifications are in order:
  1. From what I have seen, there are no war plans being discussed, nor is Lazarus attempting to convince other regions to join the fight against Osiris. What is being discussed is what caused the war and what can be done to avoid future wars, so far largely from a theoretical point of view.
  2. While some of the arguments being made by some of the attendees might be found objectionable by others, I believe that these are the objectionable ideas that arise naturally from open debate, not the ones that might compromise our intended position of neutrality.
  3. It has been pointed out that the final agreement would be non-binding, and it appears that an effort is being made to incorporate attendee submissions and ideas, rather than presenting a pre-drafted document at the end of the conference.
I would personally recommend that we attend the Regional Sovereignty Conference in good faith, to see what is there to be said and to advocate our own positions. I have asked Glen to verify the discussions as well, so we can have two opinions on this matter.

Edit: those damn typos... -_-

In light of this confirmation that war plans are not being discussed I would agree that we should be attending both conferences. I really dont see how this would be a threat to our neutrality stance.

I agree that we should attend both conferences. I think that it is the best solution and shows that there is no favoritism towards our allies.
