Electoral Reform Survey
#111

There's been time issues, and of course the survey itself was somehow controversial. I'm not in any real rush to change how we run our elections. Like I said earlier, this is a deliberative process. Lots of time for discussion and debate.

We've had discussion and we've had a debate and we now wait for the answers.

Any idea when we will get the results?

I actually am interested in seeing the results too.

It was a very broad and general survey, without more concrete details on what aspects correspond to what attributes it would be difficult to know specifically what changes the majority was asking for but I'm still interested in the results as well.

The survey was to see in broad terms what characteristics the region favours, so the Commission could see which voting system to propose. So this wasn't meant to be overly specific. That's what the actual debate is for, I assume.

With Bel's proposal in the GC planning on using IRV, which is different to how we currently vote, I think it would be interesting to be able to see the results of this survey (even raw data) to get some idea on what the region feels about some of the key aspects of this style of voting. Any chance we could at least get some results prior to the voting period? I don't want to be voting on a proposal only to find out later everyone hates the key principles of it.

Yes, I agree that one of the problems I have will Bel's proposal. I support AV/IRV but not everyone does and it unfair if they cannot vote for something because of that or they vote for it but they do not want a different voting system.

IRV is the only sensible option.

Yes I agree but you cannot force it onto people if a majority don't want it.
