Split loyalties in officials
#41

Rebels brings up a good point that voters should probably be the ones to decide whether we can trust officials - they also will probably do a better job at it than a law which just prejudices on the singular basis of external positions.

Did someone manage to archive the old forum? I know that this issues was discussed before.

Poll would be fine.

Frankly, I would not be in favor of something that makes Kris or Raven leave.

Which old forum? Chances are, you're probably referring to the IP.Board forum. Scroll down to the bottom of the home page and look under "Former Forums"

If the region passes a law like this, it's going to scare a lot of people off. Good people. So no, I don't think it's a good idea. I think it's a terrible idea. Let the voters decide.

Before anyone even talks about voting, you guys need something to vote on, but FTR, this idea can't benefit the region in any way, shape or form. Let's go back to thinking about the what-ifs in the privacy of our own minds, unless your mind happens to be public, in which case, I wish you luck Tounge

No -- we're using voters in two different ways here. "Voters" as in legislators (what you're talking about here) and "voters" as in electing representatives as Sopo/RT/Raven et al are talking about.

In my opinion, we should allow people to hold office in other regions. However, they should try their best to work for the general good of both regions. Obviously, it's difficult to expect that they'll only work for the good of TSP. I only see a problem if they start trying to sabotage or undermine TSP.

Overall I dont like the idea of having cabinet members being in positions of power in other regions but I dont think we should pass a law banning it either. While i agree it has the potential of being a security threat to the region, I agree with Raven that a regular citizen has the potential to be a great threat than an elected official. I would be against a bill proposing a ban on holding positions of power in multiple regions.

I see that problem too, but as far as I know, the Ministers here that have foreign positions do well, like Raven, Kris, Unibot, etc.(If there are more of them). Those ministers that serve other regions are exceptional, and we do not want to throw them away like garbage.

Requiring loyalty is impossible to actually achieve. You won't create loyalty by demanding it from people while explaining that you are strong-arming them because you suspect they won't be loyal otherwise. If you want people to focus on TSP, you have to show why they should.

It's not safe, it's not guaranteed, but that's how the world works.
