Legal Question (interpret the meaning and application of a law) University of Qvait, Sydney hostage crisis
#11

Behind a podium, President Gabriel West said,

Quote:Ladies and gentlemen, in the last hour the University of Qvait, Sydney was under lockdown after about thirty gunmen barricaded and held 200 students and staff hostage in the college's library. As quickly as the crisis started, we managed to end it fast. An elite unit called the 'Special Operations Service' carried out Operation Solace and put down seventeen gunmen. At the moment, we have an unconfirmed estimate that four hostages have died. As time passes, more light will be shed upon the current questions at this time. We ask that the Qvaitican people remain patient as DIADS investigates the incident.

A reporter asked, "Seventeen? Then what of the other gunmen." The President said, "The airspace and waters under Qvaitican jurisdiction has been shut down to find the gunmen who escaped. There have been rumors that these men have escaped by sea. Victor Fleet has been sent to search the Abrams Bay."

Sporaltryan Patrols have found the other gunmen. We are returning them to Sporaltryus.

More details will be presented upon an arrival and debriefing of the gunmen.

Sporaltryus and Aquica has voted to grant amnesty to the gunmen, following a jury trial.

Any evidence or charges for their crimes, if any, can be submitted to Kyle Marone, the Speaker. He will forward it to the necessary authorities.

Sporaltryus and Aquica have also found several Resentine ships near Sporaltryan waters, and upon questioning, proceeded to sail away. We view this as a threat to national sovereignty, and our independence, and as such, we condemn the Resentine government.

The Pacific Republic of Qvait demands that Sporaltryus extradites the fugitives back to Qvaitican authorities under the charges of terrorism, possession and detonation of an improvised explosive device, and four counts of murder.

Sporaltryus and Aquica will not extradite the gunmen back to Qvait, but we will charge them with the list of charges according to public Qvaitican law, and a trial will be conducted.

The government of Qvait does not trust Sporaltryus in giving the appropriate length of time to serve in prison. Furthermore, DIADS is currently investigating the incident to assure that such charges would hold up or other charges be given. If the fugitives are not extradited, the government of Qvait will view this as an international incident.
