How many languages do you have, Ryccia?

He has like a whole continent's worth of languages. Not to mention Hammerstar.

Aha, but those are not the major languages (The one used and recognised for governmental purposes)

There are only 4 major languages in Hammerstar. Old Italian, Latium, Austral and Celtic

I'm sorry.
Celtic? That's like saying West Slavic. You cannot just claim a whole language group.

Latium is mine. Since no one claimed Celtic, it would be assumed that no one had mentioned about its existence yet. Ergo, I claim the celtic language.

And you totally ignored what he just said...

RE: Language Discussion - Hammerstar - 10-20-2015

Exactly, I just don't understand your logic. The minute I claimed that one of the major languages in Hammerstar is Celtic, you came out blazing your guns.

If we are not allowed to claim a language as the major language, if less than two people claim it as their major language. I'd like to point your attention to the bolded ones.

Noctenos is the sole nation who claims Portugese as main
Caasd is the sole nation who claimed Welsh and Esperanto as main
Ubesii is the sole nation who claimed Persian as main.

RE: Language Discussion - Kris Kringle - 10-20-2015

His point is that Celtic is not a single language, it is a language family.

RE: Language Discussion - Hammerstar - 10-20-2015

Then Gaelic.

Language Discussion - ProfessorHenn - 10-20-2015

Anything that requires us all to have an encompassing agreement on things* is never going to work in this RP community. There's too much that would make it fail.

*Language, weather, other plots, religion, discovery, history, research, etc.

RE: Language Discussion - Hammerstar - 10-20-2015

This is getting too confusing, really. I'm going to talk to you as if you in the most basic way possible

There are 4 languages that Hammerstar officially uses

1. Latium
2. Gaelic
3. Old Italian
4. Austral.

Done?

That's too a language group. Irish, Scottish and Manx to be more specific.
Otherwise I don't see an issue.

My experience regarding these "encompassing agreements" supports your statement, but there are also times when we do manage to reach an agreement, like naming our moons. I do believe we can succeed in this.

RE: Language Discussion - Republic of Ubesii - 10-20-2015

I apologize for continuing with the corrections, but Gaelic, or Goidelic, is a language family within the Celtic language family. The modern languages within the Gaelic language family are, however, Modern Irish (or Irish Gaelic), Scottish Gaelic, and Manx.

On the other hand, Gaelic today usually simply refers to Scottish Gaelic, and if that is what you meant then that is, of course, fine.  Just to make sure though, here is a Celtic language tree for reference (Archaic Irish should be on there as well, but I was unable to find one that included it, most likely because we only have fragments of it today):

I hope this proves useful in eliminating any confusion.

(Also if you wanted an ancient language from that area that did not become a language family, Pictish is a distinct, unclassified language from Scotland with no modern descendants unlike ancient Irish languages.)

RE: Language Discussion - Qwert - 10-20-2015

For our RL-based languages it is easy to come up with a tree; we just use their RL connections. We just need to agree on RP names.
