Statements and Releases - Kris Kringle - 02-20-2019 Statements and Press Releases from the High Court will be published in this thread. Statements explain the position of the Court on certain key events; they are most often released upon the retirement of a Justice. Press Releases notify the public of events related to the business of the Court; they are most often used in advance of the publication of opinions, verdicts and sentences.

Justice Sandaoguo submitted today his resignation from the High Court, in response to his recent election as Minister of Foreign Affairs. In his time on the bench he has been an outstanding legal mind, helping interpret the law to the best of his ability, delivering equal justice and legal clarity to the region, and helping redefine the role of the judiciary for our modern regional society. The Court wishes him the very best in his future endeavours, both immediate and long-term.

A series of 71 threads from 2014 to 2017 has been disclosed as part on an effort by the High Court to come into full compliance with the Sunshine Act. These threads include deliberations by past justices on case submissions, discussions on administrative policy and discussions on other internal matters. It is the hope of the Court that these threads will be useful to all members of the public, present and future, as a source of historical and legal research. A detailed report on the threads disclosed, including links to each, may be found in this report.

21 March 2019 The Court provides notice to the general public that the verdict on HCCC1901: New Haudenosaunee Confederacy v. Concrete Slab will be released on 22 March around 13:00 GMT. The Court will thereafter entertain questions and doubts regarding the legal reasoning expressed in its verdict, and the process it followed in the consideration of the review request, but it will not consider questions regarding the political ramifications of the same, nor will it express opinions of a political nature on any other unrelated subject. Justice Belschaft has advised the Chief Justice that, on account of ongoing personal and professional obligations, he will not be able to continue at this time his active service on the High Court and will, consequently, assume senior status. He will continue to sit on the Court and be welcome to participate in all internal deliberations, but he will not be included in the regular rotation for case assignments unless he so requests.
Since his nomination by Prime Minister Roavin in May 2018, Justice Belschaft has distinguished himself as one of the sharpest legal minds in the region, and has contributed greatly to the development of regional law and the judicial profession. He will always be welcome to resume his active role in the Court as soon as his obligations permit. Chief Justice Kringle delivered an address today to commemorate the 16th Independence Day of the South Pacific, in the context of the festival organised by the Ministry of Regional Affairs to celebrate the occasion. In his address, the Chief Justice recounted the events that led to the region's independence, and drew a direct link between the values that former delegate LadyRebels espoused and the values that the High Court safeguards in the present day. He then called on the region to keep its commitment to openness, democracy and freedom. The address can be read in full in this thread.
