Let's agree to disagree. I always vote by secret ballot, and I'd rather not vote at all than be forced to cast a public vote.

Well if Secret Ballot legislation comes back, we can argue over it. Tounge

I don’t understand what you’re talking about. Private voting already exists and has existed for as long as I can recall.

There was a proposal recently to make private voting mandatory for all votes.

RE: Elections Act - Permanent ballots - Kris Kringle - 11-03-2020

That says nothing about the merits of private voting itself, not does it really provide any argument to claim that "secret ballots are ridiculous". There are very legitimate reasons for a legislator to wish to keep their voting private.

RE: Elections Act - Permanent ballots - Jay Coop - 11-03-2020

It's ridiculous to claim that secret ballots are ridiculous when all-public voting would be open for voter intimidation and retaliation against people who didn't vote a certain way.

RE: Elections Act - Permanent ballots - Jebediah - 11-03-2020

I think the comment was referring to the fact that we've already had this discussion elsewhere and it would not be pertinent to interrupt the ongoing discussion on this amendment.

RE: Elections Act - Permanent ballots - Jay Coop - 11-20-2020

I motion to vote on this bill.

RE: Elections Act - Permanent ballots - Farengeto - 11-21-2020

Second

This has been brought to a vote here.

As opposed to any form of intimidation and retaliation? Cause I'm pretty sure ALL of those are bad things. Which should instead of being solved by hiding votes, should be solved by idk punishing people who are intimidating and retaliating on others. What also stops intimidation and retaliations anyways? It's not like everyone keeps their mouths shut about who they vote for. I could tell a "friend" and then they tell someone else accidentally and then opposite candidate learns of this and retaliates. But it's fine because we hid my ballot. Also what do we do about intimidation and retaliations from legislative votes?

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
