While conventional Missiles are convenient, Resentine needs to know if we can disable the Uranium/Plutonium (depending on the prefered version) core itself, or at least cause it's destruction before the actual ignition of the explosive core. If we cannot effectively do this, the entire SDI program may as well have been a waste of 10 solid years of research.
