The King has political power also. We can't have a lazy king, wasting millions of dollars in taxpayers money to put a salary on the King. There is democracy, but the King acts like a moderator and proposes things and such. He has no vote in Parliament, and the Parliament itself can override the King's decision(aka Royal Orders) by a 60% majority vote.
