11 June 2019 Statement on the Senior Status of Justice Belschaft
Justice Belschaft has advised the Chief Justice that, on account of ongoing personal and professional obligations, he will not be able to continue at this time his active service on the High Court and will, consequently, assume senior status. He will continue to sit on the Court and be welcome to participate in all internal deliberations, but he will not be included in the regular rotation for case assignments unless he so requests.
Since his nomination by Prime Minister Roavin in May 2018, Justice Belschaft has distinguished himself as one of the sharpest legal minds in the region, and has contributed greatly to the development of regional law and the judicial profession. He will always be welcome to resume his active role in the Court as soon as his obligations permit. Former Delegate of the South Pacific
Posts outside High Court venues should be taken as those of any other legislator. I do not participate in the regional server, but I am happy to talk through instant messaging or on the forum.
