2021 Gianlucian federal elections (YOU DECIDE!)
#13

"What is your views of Sedunn and Transsuneria respectively?"

SLP/Greens/KPHA/AVP/FPG: We view Sedunn as our strongest ally on Bailtem and appreciate their efforts to defend democracy and liberal societies around the world. As for Transsuneria, we have positive views about them. After the deceased Chancellor Kirchmann has visited Nieulandsheim to commence trade talks with President Palmann, we were once again reassured, that we want to invest into the country and also play a role in helping them standing on their own feet. Sadly the progress in the negotiation process came to a stand-still due to the Reizen Civil War extending to the Karelins. We hope to pick up talks again, when we have found a new government coalition.

LGI: In general, we view both countries positively as both tend to mutually cooperate with their partners, however Sedunn's foreign policy still cannot go fully uncriticised. It seems like they play a two-faced game at times, going to war regularly on the one hand to allegedly defend the spirit of democracy as a kind of world police, while on the other founding an organisation like the World Forum to manifest diplomacy as the main mean to solve global conflicts. On the one hand cooperating with the world by suggesting a security alliance between the strongest nations of Cordilia and Bailtem, on the other not ratifying the TPNW, which actually would make the world a safer place. Albeit all that, we think that overall the Sedunners are mostly trustworthy partners.
As for Transsuneria we agree with other parties, that we need to show solidarity to the country we have occupied partially once. It's our responsibility, that the country can get up on its feet as soon as possible.

"How do you think GI-Land handles its Great War legacy?"/"What view do you have on your past and how do they affect your politics?"

SLP/KPHA/FPG: We think, GI-Land handles its past pretty well. Former enemies and nations we made to puppet states during the Great War have mostly forgiven us and we are now looking at a map of North Cordilia with a vast number of stable and wealthy nations, which partner up for common goals. We all can be proud of that, however it has to be clear to everyone, that this development is not self-evident. Lots of constant education about those dark times and strict laws forbidding hate against other people groups as well as the Frankian ideology were needed to instill the sense of responsibility of the nation's actions into our people, which lessens the national pride overall, but at the same time, we could also state: "We are proud of not being proud".

Greens/LGI: While in general the Gianlucian public is aware of its historic responsibility due to the Great War, its century-long imperialism and the genocide committed in Besern by the Frankian Dictatorship, we need to put more effort into keeping the mentality alive. The rise of right-wing forces like the AVP, who also use anti-Gianlucian or anti-Bruuman sentiments, who in general try to sow hate in the populace by wanting to give the people a scapegoat for all their problems, is worrying us immensely. Currently we do not do enough against this potential and actual violence induced by mere words of hate, that could sooner or later undermine all the progress we made with dealing with our legacy from darker times.

AVP: It depends on which part of GI-Land you are talking about. While the Atlantics had mostly forgiven the Gianlucians for their heinous acts against their lands during the dictatorship and have also undergone a defrankinisation process, we had to see, back in 2011, that the Gianlucians, while trying to convey, they are different people now, are still imperialists deep in their heart. If the next Gianlucian government does not make way for a referendum on the secession of Atlantis from GI-Land again, then you'll know, GI-Land does not handle its Great War legacy well.

"If new significant reserves of rare rare-earth elements were found in GI-Land, would you be prepared to mine those to boost production of e.g. batteries?"

SLP/KPHA: Provided GI-Land discovers new resources in its territory, we will mine those resources if needed and legally possible.

Greens: Mining rare earth elements is currently still tied to a huge environmental impact in regards of pollution. At the same time, we need to modernise the Gianlucian economy and the production of batteries might be one of the biggest future markets, GI-Land could and should play a role in. If needed, we would not outrule to mine the materials, however the mining process would need to become climate neutral as quickly as possible. Furthermore we need to research on how to mine resources without needing to displace too many people and disrupt too large parts of our infrastructure.

LGI: Climate neutral mining of rare earth elements is currently not possible. Furthermore the social disruption of displacing people, robbing their home from them, just to increase the dividends of a few shareholders, that's something we don't see as proportionate action. Instead of focusing on battery production and electrifying our current, still too car-centered mobility, we should expand the public transport network even more and make it possible to live as good in every village as in the city. The need for a car would drastically decrease and thus the need to produce batteries, which would need those rare earth elements. That's why we expect to not get into the assumed situation.

AVP/FPG: Yes.

"What would be your foreign policy toward Bruuma?"

LGI: We commend the effort of the current government to have somewhat close and friendly relations to the Voodoo's Republic, but clearly say at the same time: There's room for more! Students from both countries should experience each other's culture. We should piggy-back each other's tourism sector. We need to cooperate on fully demining the sea borders between Erinor & Sereva, Bruuma and GI-Land. We need a full and detailed friendship and common defense treaty as quickly as possible. This would show to the world, that North-West Cordilia will stay stable in the future, but also - from a geo-strategic perspective - that Bruuma is willing to get talked to and to cooperate, which in turn could ease up other allied states of our federal republic to the idea of letting Bruuma join the World Forum, a step we think the Unclepears should have taken already. Those are ambitious plans for the next four years, we know that, but we think that those are the right plans for a brighter, more peaceful future in our region.

"Would you end Gianlucian military cooperation with other capitalistic nations?"

LGI: While there are talks about defensive pacts between GI-Land and several other nations, GI-Land currently does not have a direct military cooperation or mission with another state. The only exception would be, that GI-Land is currently willing to send peacekeeping troops, shall the World Forum decide on a peacekeeping mission. We do not see the World Forum as a pact between capitalist nations though, but take their mission at face value and see it as a ground for every nation of any ideology to come together and discuss the ways forward for Pacifica.
Either way the LGI does not want to deploy the Bundesarmee except for cases, where GI-Land's territory is directly attacked. Thus any defensive pact with any nation, that would include passages, where the Bundesarmee should be used to attack other nations, will not be accepted. Same goes for any cooperation asking us to increase our military budget as we think, the world shall disarm and not start another arms race, which would and will ultimately lead to a high number of casualties at some point in the future.

"What are your introduced policies and manifestoes for the people of GI-Land?"

All parties: Our manifesto and how we voted in the Königspalast can be viewed online on the official website of each of the parties.
(OOC: I'm sorry, it might be I don't understand your question fully. As for introduced policies, I could collect all introduced and failed policies from the last legislature for sure, but I won't write full manifestoes now ^^ The general info on page 1 as well as the picture you have gotten of each party through the answers I've given already needs to suffice to imagine what a party stands for and what they don't support.)

"What are your views on enhancing ties with for say, Besern?"

SLP/KPHA: We would like to enhance our ties with Besern, however we'd prefer a bilateral approach. Besern's foundation of the NCU as a reaction to the failed Bailtem Union was, from our perspective, currently not the right way to do that.

Greens/LGI/AVP: We are positive, Gianlucian-Besernian relations will become stronger in the near future. Our similar cultures as well as the Gianlucian responsibility towards Besern both call for strong and deep ties between our nations.

FPG: Besern is one of the key nations in a Cordilian Union we envision. Not only because of its size and economic output, but also because of its regional and soft power it has enhanced by founding the North Cordilian Union and now hosting the Youth Olympiad in Zersbach.
