JANUARY 2022 DELEGATE ELECTION

The election, as laid out in Articles 2 and 3 of the Elections Act, consists of a first round of voting held via Approval Voting and open to all legislators who gained their status prior to the start of the declarations period, followed by a second round of voting held via regional poll and open to all native members of the region who are also in the World Assembly. This thread contains information related to voting in the first round.

HOW TO VOTE

There are two ways of casting a vote in the first round. In both cases, the act of voting involves listing all candidates whom the legislator approves without regard to any order of preference or, instead, selecting the option to re-open nominations.
  • A public vote may be cast via the Public Voting Booth, which will print the vote as a reply to this thread.

  • A private vote may be cast via the Private Voting Booth, which will send the vote as a message to an account accessible only by the Election Commissioner. Every private vote is assigned a reference code known only to each individual voter, so that they identify their vote once the tally is released.
Voting for the first round begins on January 08 at 12 AM (UTC) and ends on January 11 at 12 AM (UTC) (countdown).

INTERPRETATION OF VOTES

There are certain circumstances in which the Election Commissioner will exercise their discretion to determine whether a vote is valid. The following is a non-exhaustive list of cases where the Commissioner may exercise their discretion:
  • A vote where a candidate is mentioned more than once will be read as containing a single approval for said candidate.

  • A vote where the option to re-open nominations is included alongside candidates listed on the official ballot will be considered invalid and will be excluded the tally.

  • A vote that contains approvals for options not listed on the official ballot will have those approvals deemed invalid and excluded from the tally, but the vote itself will be deemed valid as long as it contains approvals for options listed on the official ballot.

  • A vote that has been edited will be considered invalid and will excluded from the tally.

  • A vote cast by an ineligible individual will be considered invalid and will be excluded from the tally.

  • A vote cast after the voting period has ended will be considered invalid and will be excluded from the tally.
The Commissioner will only exercise discretion on the matter of the names of candidates in the event that candidate names are mentioned with improper punctuation, but not in cases where candidate names are mistyped or nicknames are used, unless the use of such nicknames is coordinated with, and accepted by, the Commissioner for inclusion in the ballot prior to the casting of the relevant vote.

Posts outside High Court venues should be taken as those of any other legislator.
I do not participate in the regional server, but I am happy to talk through instant messaging or on the forum.
