[DRAFT] [2221.AB] Legislator Expansion Amendment
#31

It is extremely easy to maintain legislator status as you don't even have to participate in discussions, all you have to do is to check the forums every three days to vote 'Abstain' as you don't even have to know what you are voting on.

Do we really need to ease up the requirements any further?

At some point, this is something that needs to be addressed in my opinion.
Besides voting for elections, the nature of most proposals concerning the law is that of sparking an interest in those who are in a legislative body.
Putting it bluntly, if you have no opinion on legal matters, why are you even in a legislative body?

The problem is that the Assembly is not just a legislative body. The Assembly also confirms many government officials, and more importantly in my mind, elects the Cabinet. Telling people who have a legitimate interest in voting in Cabinet elections that if they want to vote they also have to be interested in legal matters is silly.

The legislative branch should hold the executive branch accountable as well. The issue you display is that where the legislative branch is not actually subject to vote by citizens.
In this situation, each Legislator should be subject to a vote by citizens of The South Pacific Coalition and in that way be accountable for his own voting, either on legal matters or on electing members of the Cabinet. This can be achieved by using a polling service*, displaying it to NS members of TSP region.
*Such polls must assure that each citizen, a) votes only once, b) can not use alt accounts. The only way for this to work is to give the rights to vote only to WA members.

*Radical idea*

A bicameral Assembly. Legislators on the forums are the upper house and RMB poll voting is the lower house.

Now that would be GC worthy!

That's way beyond the scope of this bill. You should create a thread arguing for that.

I'm aware. I'm just pointing out that, if these are the issues you wish to solve, these would be the actual solutions.

We could have the Assembly and an elected House of Representatives.

The whole purpose of legislator status to vote on the laws, government and direction of TSP. Not post spam, play counting games  or live on discord. As for having to "participate" is debates, if my thoughts have already be presented, I don't need to repeat them.
As a citizen of the USA and a registered voter, all that does is give me the right to vote in elections while verifying I am an eligible citizen where I'm voting. There is NO requirements that I go to town meetings, join the PTA or coach youth recreational soccer. The rules are fine as they are.

God damn it, don't give them ideas!

...*sigh* it's too late. It's inevitable, really.

The curse of the GC.
