The Sallodesian Overseas Cantons Project
A new take on collaborative nations

What is the S.O.C. Project?

The Sallodesian Overseas Cantons Project is a collaborative nation project - similar to the Arnchow project - intended for players who haven't yet reached the maximum plot limit and would like to still be part of a collaborative nation. The aim of this project is to make smaller plots - specifically island nations - an interesting roleplay setting for both new & established players by making these island plots part of a larger nation divided into multiple subdivisons.
While these Cantons remain an inseparable territory of the Republic of Sallodesia, these Cantons have a unique position within the Sallodesian political structure. Although technically nearly identical to constituent states to the larger republic, Cantons have a unique mandate in managing their Special Free Trade Area (S.F.T.A.) which encompasses their entire territory. Allowing the Canton governments to trade freely with outsiders in addition of their own legislature and guaranteed protection & representation by the federal republic.

What is the history of Cantons?

During the 17th century, the Izaakian Empire funded many colonial expeditions as a naval power, chief among them was the Sallow Expeditionary Company that founded modern-day Sallodesia by the very ambitious colonist & business magnate John Edmond Sallow. These colonial ambitions were prevalent across the South Pacific and fueled the colonial economy of the empire. Either by claiming uninhabited islands for their resources or enslaving the natives. Over time these became political entities within the Izaakian Empire which made great efforts to reunite with its Bailtemmic ancestral nations of Brodlancia & Montacia. However, frictions rose between the colonial Izaakston regime and the colonial population throughout history. These frictions erupted under Sallodesian President Ryan John Smith when he declared Sallodesia's Unilateral Declaration of Independence after a military catastrophe to reclaim Brodlancia & Montacia lead by Emperor Jezza III in 1921. Sparse & remote islands saw an unique opportunity and followed Sallodesia's UDI, joining the large secessionist movement to escape the colonial regime. President Smith agreed to the creating of the SFTA's to grant the wanted autonomy of the seceded islands within the framework of incorporation to the federal republic. Sallodesia remained a fairly isolated state throughout most of its independence consolidating its nation throughout rebellions and insurgencies. The overseas Cantons were of vital importance to maintain the Sallodesians of food supplies during these campaigns.
Roleplayers part of this project do however have free reign over their Canton's worldbuilding within the aforementioned history, but it is suggested to talk with @Izaakia & @StoicMetoik to created an encompassing shared history.

The fundamental idea of collaborative nation sprung up OOC-ly with Besern (CZ57#7672) & Huawan (Doctor Kane of Hammer Country#3997), but I wanted to try another take on their fundamental idea.
