Issue #111: Hostage crisis at University of Qvait, Sydney, nationwide manhunt ensues

SYDNEY, QVAIT — Air and sea travel has been shutdown as a hostage crisis is ended and a nationwide manhunt occurs in Qvait. More than an hour ago, about thirty gunmen who are rumored to be affiliated with the banned Constitutional Socialist Party of Qvait (CSPQ) took about 200 students and staff hostage in the library of the University of Qvait, Sydney. The lead gunman demanded that President Gabriel West resign and transfer power to Isaac Faulkner, the Chairman of the CSPQ.

As soon as the crisis had started, it ended. The elite unit called the Special Operations Service (SOS) besieged the library and put down seventeen gunmen. At the scene, a bomb was detonated where the rest of the gunmen escaped into the sewer. The editor at The Qvaitican Cascade has received rumors that the escaped gunmen will seek asylum in Sporaltryus. If the gunmen have already made it to Sporaltryus and is given asylum, then the already tense relations that currently exist between Qvait and Sporaltryus will get worse.

DIADS is currently investigating the ordeal, but if there is evidence that the other gunmen have indeed escaped the country, the foreign investigation will be ran by the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS). At the moment, DIADS has restarted its 12-year search for Isaac Faulkner and members of his illegal communist party. For more than a decade, the communist chairman managed to evade arrest by Qvaitican law enforcement, but now the Qvaitican government seems poised to keep looking for him until he dies.

It is evidenced that for the last nine years, Faulkner was granted political asylum in the communist North Qvait until the end of the Qvaitican War in which the North was defeated. Sometime after the Sporaltryan War started on 24 October, 2014, he may have fled to Sporaltryus in hopes of being granted political asylum. However, the spokesperson for DIADS said, "We do not know the whereabouts of fugitive Isaac Faulkner. If he has sought asylum in Sporaltryus, we would have been informed by the [Intelligence Service for Defense and Security]."

Issue #112: 17 gunmen of the UQ, Sydney hostage crisis sentenced to death

SYDNEY, QVAIT — After a federal investigation, the Qvaitican Supreme Court has sentenced the seventeen gunmen to death. However, the federal government is frustrated that, since the gunmen escaped to Sporaltryus, they couldn't try them within Qvait where they would be sure that they will be definitively executed. President Gabrielle West said, "I am skeptical that Sporaltryus will follow through with the execution, so I hope to send observers to bear witness."

Contrary to how President West feels, political analysts believe that Sporaltryus will follow through because it wants to find a new footing with Qvait. Stockholm News reporter Ashlynn DeMarco said, "Sporaltryus wants to, say, throw in ice cubes to the hot and tense relationship between the two nations. If Sporaltryus was to not follow through, they know that it would be ever more harder to mend relations."

Issue #113: Rumors circulate that Karnetvorian dictator Trent von Mayer resides in Qvait

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — A rumor has circulated that a former Karnetvorian dictator is living in Qvait. The dictator, Trent von Mayer, is supposedly a national socialist as former leader of the Nationalist Party of Karnetvor (NPK). Shortly after the rumors circulated, the Domestic Intelligence Agency of Defense and Security (DIADS) spokesman, Victor Brennan, said, "We, nor the ISDS, [the foreign intelligence agency of Qvait], made no attempt to keep track of the former President's movement."

Because ISDS and DIADS did not keep track of his movement, they are not sure if von Mayer is even in-country. The Pacific Republic of Qvait banned both communist and fascist parties and symbols during the First Republic in 2002, which was reaffirmed during the Second Republic's inception on 8 March, 2012. President Gabriel West said, "I want DIADS to investigate these rumors. If we have a war criminal in this country, we must find him. I want to make it clear that Qvait is not a safe haven for war criminals, no matter their ideology."

Issue #114: Qvaitican government is rebuilding Ryccia alone, investigation of von Mayer continues

DAONLATHAS, RYCCIA — As the rest of the South Pacific has abandoned plans to rebuild Ryccia, the government of Qvait is currently single-handedly rebuilding the country's cities and speaking with regional leaders with the plan to set up a new government. Secretary of State Katelynn Cutter said to the editor of The Qvaitican Cascade that "we are aiming for the establishment of a new government in Ryccia. At this moment, we are hoping to set an election date for either 1 or 15 May."

President Gabriel West said, "We are multitasking with our foreign and domestic policies to make sure that we are not forgetting about the issues we have here at home." The investigation of deposed Karnetvorian dictator Trent von Mayer is continuing at home, but many Qvaitican civilians are skeptical about whether their tax dollars are worth investigating the incident. An anonymous civilian spoke to the editor and said, "If this guy found on camera is indeed von Mayer, then it is worth investigating. However, the public will be outraged if this investigation was a waste of time and money."

Issue #115: Qvaitican government submits extradition treaty to the Southern Cooperation Organisation

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — With authorization from the Qvaitican Senate, President Gabriel West has submitted an extradition treaty to the Southern Cooperation Organisation (SCO). This comes after rumors that deposed Karnetvorian dictator Trent von Mayer, a war criminal, has been residing in the Pacific Republic of Qvait. Karnetvor, which is a fellow SCO member, is investigating with the Qvaitican Domestic Intelligence Agency of Defense and Security (DIADS) and the foreign Intelligence Service for Defense and Security (ISDS) on the matter.

President Gabriel West said, "The ratification and entry into force of this treaty will strengthen relations between the members of the Southern Cooperation Organisation. With this treaty, extradition will become easier. After Sporaltryus denied extradition of the 17 terrorists in the University of Qvait, Sydney hostage crisis, we need to make sure that this does not happen among the members of the SCO."

Issue #116: Sporaltryus executes the 17 terrorists that were part of the UQS hostage crisis, capital punishment abolished

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — After being condemned to death on 4 April, the government of Sporaltryus has carried out the death penalty for the seven terrorists. Back in Qvait, many citizens believe that the terrorists received their just punishment. Since their execution, the Supreme Court of Qvait has abolished the death penalty. However, inmates who are currently on death row will not be affected by the abolition of capital punishment and will be the last in Qvait to be executed.

Several Qvaitican political analysts believe that the execution of the seventeen terrorists is a step in the right path in Qvaitican and Sporaltryan foreign relations. Secretary of State Katelynn Cutter said, "Before their execution, we were all skeptical that Sporaltryus would follow through, but it they did, which is good for the future of the two nations." Even though the relations between the two nations will never be the same as before the Sporaltryan War, the two nations can ease the tension from time to time.

Issue #117: Stockholm International Business Center II is blooming

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — Months after the completion of Stockholm's second commercial district, the Stockholm International Business Center II (Stockholm IBC II), the economy of the Pacific Republic of Qvait has expanded rapidly within weeks. The Stockholm IBC II is expected to bring in billions of dollars per year. With the new business district, Stockholm has been expanded by one square mile.

The zoning board of Stockholm has periodically expanded the city both horizontally and vertically. Board President Freddie Blanco told the press, "My personal goal is to make Stockholm an endeavor of the world." Blanco went on to say that Qvait cannot afford to fall behind in the world and that this country is economically superior to other countries. Despite his ego, many Stockholmers believe he is right.

Issue #118: Winstonians are given new home, Secretary of State Cutter resigns and resumes role as Queen

MONTEROS, WINSTON ISLAND — The government of the Pacific Republic of Qvait has found a new home for the Winstonian people who had relocated with Qvait to the South Pacific after a destructive blizzard forced the Qvaiticans and Winstonians to both relocate. After the relocation, the Qvaiticans and Winstonians shared homes with each other, but now the Qvaitican government has found a new home for its former enemy.

Because the Winstonians will be given autonomous power again, Secretary of State Katelynn Williams-Cutter has resigned to rule as the Queen of Winston Island once more. Queen Williams said, "I have waited for this day for more than a year. The Winstonian people have been trying to find a new permanent home after practically having a government within the government of Qvait." With Williams resigning as Secretary of State, President West is seeking to appoint former Governor Giovanni Giletti to the position.

Issue #119: Crisis erupts in Scalten, Qvait discussing treaties

CANCÚN, WINSTON ISLAND — Since a few days ago, a crisis has begun on an island called Scalten. So far, Qvait has remained neutral in the conflict, but after this Saturday's conference in Aquica, Sporaltryus, Qvait's position will most likely change. The only action that Qvait has taken is that it dispatched the QRS Azzello Carlino to the region to assess the situation.

Despite all the chaos in Scalten, the government of Qvait is discussing an extradition treaty in the Southern Cooperation Organisation and an International Arms Reduction and Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. President Gabriel West, as he promised, is deeply interacting with other nations in the South Pacific, and he wants to create a number of treaties by the end of his term.

Issue #120: First round of negotiations on treaty begins

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — The first round of treaty negotiations began three days ago in the Qvaitican capital and it is said that much progress has been made but is far from complete. The discussion of an International Arms Reduction and Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (IARNPT) was first introduced by President Gabriel West seven days ago on 29 April. The President said, "The nuclear powers of the South Pacific, including Qvait, has fought among each other and has fought with a limited set of rules of engagement and that worries me."

President West said, "I know that this treaty would not prevent war, but at least it will make sure that we set guidelines for every signatory nation to follow. Even though there will be nations who won't sign it, this treaty will make sure that the powerful nations, like this one, will play fair." The new Secretary of State, Giovanni Giletti, has been in a room with other diplomats attending the first round of negotiations, "I want to make sure that everyone leaves the table with something, and that is a treaty."
