March 16th, 2015 Karnetvor Condemns Human Rights Abuses in Ryccia

After the Kringalian delegation to the Southern Cooperation Organization exposed numerous human rights abuses commited by the Ryccian government, Josef Kyrzinski, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Karnetvor, condemned the abuses in an official statement. Kyrzinski said: "We condemn the human rights abuses. The rights of the people must be respected. In particular, we are worried about the use of military weapons against protesters".
Later that day, the Government of Karnetvor announced that it would implement sanctions against individuals responsible for commiting the abuses, namely freezing any assets they may have in Karnetvor, and revoking their visas.
Karnetvor is the third nation that has imposed sanctions upon Ryccia; Kringalia and Farengeto promulgated sanctions after the original declaration in the SCO meeting.
KSS Liberty Repairs Finished [Image: Kongo_Class_Destroyer.jpg] KSS Liberty at sea, before its hijacking The Karnetvorian Navy has announced that the destroyer KSS Liberty is again fully operational. The ship suffered heavy damage during its hijacking in the Transsunerian Conflict, aproximately two months ago; it was reported that the bridge was completely destroyed and the engines heavily damaged. Since the ship was recovered, it had been in a dry dock in the city of Peach Creek, where it was repaired.
The ship was moved to a regular dock in a small ceremony held in the same city where it was repaired. In the same ceremony, First Officer Dimitri Izmailov, second in command of the Liberty when it was hijacked, received the Distinguished Service Medal for organizing the members of the crew who managed to escape the ship (they were stranded at sea for days) and helping to organize the rescue efforts.

Issue 2 March 21st, 2015 Protests Erupt in the Capital over Ryccian Coup

Hundreds of people have gathered in Karnet City's Central Square to protest against the illegal takeover of the Ryccian Government by Prime Minister Dave Isvou, support the protests in Ryccia, and ask the Karnetvorian Government to impose more sanctions. It is estimated that a significant number of protesters are Ryccian citizens, refugees from the Ryccian Civil War, and asylum seekers. "Isvou must resign!" said John Mirkus, a Ryccian national who resides in Karnetvor since the Civil War began. "Long live democracy! Long live Ryccia! Long live the King!" The Hyreil-Foreseas railway line has been finally put back in service after one and a half years of reconstruction. The line was destroyed in the Karnetvorian Civil War, when loyalist troops destroyed the railway to stop the rebel forces from taking the city of Foreseas.
Due to Foreseas' relatively remote location, it took a very long time to finish the repairs. Until today, it was the last railway line in Karnetvor still undergoing war-related repairs.
Alfred Dravić, the Governor of the State of Molotov (of which Foreseas is capital), declared: "This is a historic day. One of the last wounds of the war has been healed".

Issue 3 March 22nd, 2015 BREAKING NEWS: Ryccia Declares War Against Karnetvor

Today, the Government of Ryccia has announced a declaration of war against Karnetvor and various other nations, most of them members of the Southern Cooperation Organization (SCO), "to keep order and unity and to defend our country". The other nations mentioned in the declaration were: Qvait, Laiwan, Darkstrait, Punchwood, Kringalia, Farengeto, Awesomiasa, and the Resentine Kingdom. All the nations listed on the declaration have in common the fact that they have criticized the human rights violations commited by the Ryccian Government, and/or imposed sanctions against Ryccia.
Following the declaration, President Kerenskiy addressed the nation, informing them about the state of war: "Today, the dictatorial regime in Ryccia has declared war against our country. Is a clear sign of desperation of a regime that is falling apart". He then announced:
This will be Karnetvor's first major military conflict since the Karnetvorian Civil War of 2011-2013.

Karnetvor Votes in Favor of the SCO's Plan with Respect to Ryccia

After some deliberation with the other nations involved in the Ryccian conflict, Karnetvor voted for the implementation of a plan for the reconstruction of Ryccia called the "Frost Plan". The plan, proposed by Qvaitican President Dominic Frost, establishes that a new Prime Minister shall be elected by the people of Ryccian people, and a new government shall be organized, under the same system of laws; also, Ryccia's nuclear arsenal shall be dismantled. Karnetvor also voted in favor of the formation of an International Oversight Commission, as proposed by the Republic of Kringalia. However, there are many problems that have to be resolved before the plan is implemented; Ryccia is still in a state of anarchy after the Provisional Government surrendered unconditionally to the occupation forces and dissolved. Its members are in hiding or in exile. Also, there is an ongoing insurgency against the occupation forces; it is supposedly organized by Punchwood, who has invaded the country with the goal of establishing a government of their own.

It is rumored that former Karnetvorian dictator Trent von Mayer is hiding in Qvait, more specifically in the capital, Stockholm. The rumor started when Roger A. Mitchell, a Karnetvorian national who was on holiday in Qvait, claimed to have seen him in Stockholm. Mitchell said: "I was walking on the street, going back to the hotel, when I saw von Mayer leaving a store. He had bought groceries, I think. I managed to take a picture of him. Seconds after I took it, he entered a cab and left". Vitaly Morozov, head of the National Intelligence Agency, said about the rumor: "We can't confirm or deny von Mayer's presence in Qvait; there is not enough evidence to prove if he is living in there or not", he then added, "We will contact the Qvaitican authorities to make sure". Von Mayer became ruler of Karnetvor in 2007. His party, the far-right, conservative, Nationalist Party of Karnetvor (NPK) had dominated Karnetvorian politics since 2004. The NPK took absolute control of the government; opposition parties were illegalized and dissent suppressed. Freedoms of speech and assembly were severely curtailed, corruption was rampant, press freedom was non-existing and individuals suspicious of opposing the regime were arrested and tortured by the dictatorship's secret police, the Sturma Armiya (Assault Army). Also, the regime imposed a policy of international isolation, to "stop hostile elements from entering the country". The dictatorship was finally overthrown in 2012, after a series of massive protests in 2011 were succeeded by an armed rebellion against the government; the conflict is known as the Karnetvorian Civil War. Most of the members of the regime have been tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity, but von Mayer escaped before the trial and has been a fugitive ever since.

The rumor that says that Trent von Mayer is hiding in Qvait has gained strength after someone posted the above photo in a social networking site. The photo appears to show von Mayer (center) accompanied by (presumably) two bodyguards and various unidentified individuals. The head of the National Intelligence Agency, after dozens of people gathered in the Agency's headquarters in Karnet City to demand an investigation, said: "We are currently investigating the matter. There is no need to worry; if he is in Qvait we'll find him and bring him to justice for his crimes". The Qvaitican intelligence agency, DIADS (Domestic Intelligence Agency of Defense and Security), announced last week that they had made no attempt to track von Mayer's movements. Qvaitican President Gabriel West said that Qvait was going to investigate the rumors: "I want DIADS to investigate these rumors. If we have a war criminal in this country, we must find him. I want to make it clear that Qvait is not a safe haven for war criminals, no matter their ideology." Peach Creek Nuclear Power Plant Undergoes Maintenance

Some sections of the Alexander Pranjić Nuclear Power Plant, located near the city of Aberdale, State of Peach Creek, were shut down for maintenance yesterday. The Director of the Plant, Philip Zagoyev, said: "It is nothing out of the ordinary, just rutinary maintenance work". The plant provides electricity to the residents of the city of Peach Creek, capital of the homonymous State and second most biggest city in Karnetvor, and various other cities. Power outages were reported in this city, and in the cities of Aberdale and Imoren due to the nuclear plant's shutdown, with a duration of 10 to 60 minutes on average. It is rumored that the sectors of the plant that were shutdown had not been mantained properly since the start of the Civil War. This would explain the maintenance works and the power outages; the plant normally is capable of producing enough energy even with some of the reactors turned off.

Issue 7 April 19th, 2015 Karnetvor Becomes an Official Member of the SCO

After two months of deliberation, the Southern Cooperation Organization (SCO) approved the accession of Karnetvor to the organization, by a vote of 4-0 and one abstention. Karnetvor expressed its intention of joining the Organization last February, after its National Assembly (parliament) voted in favor of doing so, in a motion proposed by the President and supported by the majority of the political parties represented in it, with the exception of the Conservative Party (which supported keeping the status quo), and the Socialist Party (which supported joining the SSU instead). The President declared: "We are happy to be part of this organization. We, like all nations, want to help to mantain the peace in this region; we are sure that the SCO will accomplish that."
Former MP Zelda Harkinyan, who represented Karnetvor in the accession process, has been appointed as Karnetvor's Permanent Representative to the organization. She told the Gazette that, "It's an honor to represent my country. I'll be glad to do it once more." She also said about the SCO itself, that "The SCO holds and uphelds the values of democracy and human rights; every country should do the same"
The SCO is formed by the nations of Kringalia, Awesomiasa, Sovonor, Sporaltryus (suspended), Qvait, Farengeto, and Bonaugure. The Sanghelios Legion was also a member until its collapse. The organization's goals are to strengthen economic freedom and openness, promote cultural and educational development, to encourage democratic values and ensure peace and friendship throughout the South Pacific.

Issue 8 April 27th, 2015 Talks on Tasterninian Re-incorporation Begin

Talks have started between the governments of Karnetvor and Tasternine to decide on the issue of Tasterninian re-incorporation into Karnetvor. President Kerenskiy, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kyrzinski, and other Karnetvorian representatives have met with Tasterninian President Alexey Turchynov and others. "We are confident that peaceful reunification can be achieved", said Turchynov; "If the people want reunification, of course." President Kerenskiy told the Gazette, "If the Tasterninian people want it [reunification], Karnetvor will receive them with open arms."
In the meeting, it was agreed that a plebiscite would be held on the issue next month. It was also agreed that, in case the "yes" option won, that Tasternine would enjoy a higher level of autonomy than the States in Karnetvor; it would become an Autonomous Federal Territory of Karnetvor. Changes to the countries respective Constitutions to reflect the change in status of the territory were also discussed.
Tasternine (map code: "Plot 38") is composed of three islands; Petalia, Teselia, and Karniya, located north of the Midwestern Landmass. It has maritime boundaries with the Union of Free Individuals. Annexed by Karnetvor in 1868, it was a colony until 1975, when it was formally incorporated into Karnetvor and became an Autonomous Territory. It retained that status until 2009, when it seceded to free itself from the Nationalist dictatorship. After the Karnetvorian Civil War ended, democracy was reestablished, and motivated by economic crisis, and political instability, an increasing number of people (up to 70% of Tasterninians, according to polls) started demanding reunification with Karnetvor.

Issue 9 May 4th, 2015 Transsunerian Conflict Ends: Soormann and Purists Surrender
Soormann's fighters surrender
After an assault by Allied and Federation forces on Grandmaster Soormann's bunker near the Transsunerian coast, the terrorist group known as Soormann's Fighters has capitulated unconditionally. Soormann himself was captured by Darkstraitese troops.
The assault came after a series of serious military defeats (including the loss of their provisional capital, Floodport, to the Allied armies) forced the Soormans to retreat to a small area near the coast, where their headquarters were located. Thousands of Allied and Federation soldiers attacked the area, supported by artillery, tanks, and the navies and air forces of the Allied nations (Sedunn, Darkstrait, and Karnetvor). The Soormans, overwhelmed, surrendered.
Hours later, the other main combatant , the Purists, also surrendered, bringing the war to an end.

Peach Creek Wins Football League Title

The Peach Creek FC football team has won the Karnetvorian First Division title with a game to spare after defeating its closest rivals, Monachia CF, 2-0 on Sunday. Peach Creek had been first on the table since January, and had a four point advantage over second-placed Monachia. Monachia needed to win Sunday's game and next week's to win the title; depending on Peach Creek's results.
However, Peach Creek dominated the game and scored early, winning the match, and ending Monachia's hopes. This is Peach Creek's eighth League title, making it the team with most championships in the league's 25-year-long history.
