Election commission
#1

I'd like us to discuss having an election commission again. Meeting these election restrictions is problematic to my schedule and, I'm assuming, to that of the other administrators as well.

Therefore, I'd like it to be someone's job to oversee the elections. Ideally, this person will have the time and be dedicated to running elections before on here and on the RMB.

Therefore, I'm going to suggest the following change to the Election Act.

Quote:Article 4 - Election Commission

1. Elections will be run by an appointed election commissioner.
2. The election commissioner will be selected by the Assembly, with a vote of 60% approval.
3. The election commissioner will run all elections during his/her term.
3. The election commissioner should refrain from running for office in any of the elections she is running.
4. Election commissioner terms will last four months and start on the first of March, July and December.

Certainly an interesting idea.

No. I actually have plenty of free time all the way up to August. I would have no problem overseeing the Local Council election, as you asked in the office, provided you are there to actually set up the regional poll.

Sorry Kris, I suppose I assumed a lack of action beyond publicly berating me meant you were busy.

There is a thread in the Admin Office where you ask is any of us has time to oversee the election. We are on a Sunday night and I was spending time with my family, so forgive me if I don't instantly check the forum and volunteer to be the EC. :dodgy:

I didn't say you had to respond immediately. In fact, I'd quite understand if you didn't.

But we've had four days (as you've pointed out) and it fell to me to ask someone to run an election. This isn't solely my job and there was roughly 96 hours when none of the other possible election commissioners made any motion on this. This comes after TAC sent messages notifying us of the impending deadline for the court election.

I'm not faulting any of us for being busy, but as GR pointed out elsewhere, the number of elections is getting time consuming. As such, if we stay on this course, I think we need to dedicate a person to running them.

You are the one who has to set up the poll. It was only natural that you would be the EC. I didn't notice because quite frankly I never check the regional polls. If you had time limitations (which would be completely understandable) you should have told us in the Office, as you did today.

There are three admins, and we've had no problem with administering elections so far. Just because we have a minor issue with this one, I don't see a need to change the whole system. It just means you were short of time, and another admin had to oversee this election. Simple as that.

This isn't just about me. Or just about this time.

This is the second election in a row that we've had a problem getting together.

Since we didn't seem to make any movements toward lowering the number of elections, having something in this manner will at least make sure we don't get overloaded.

I just want to point out that with four-month intervals it should be November, not December, for when the third term starts.

I agree with Tsunamy. If one person is dedicated to running elections, we could (hopefully) not have this problem anymore.

Also, since there have been days without much discussion; I'll motion it to a vote. Wabam!
