Judicial Elections Amendment
#101

I appreciate that isn't good, but RON is effectively nothing. We can't govern without people occupying positions.
#102

RON is a chance for a mulligan, which is sometimes helpful.

Indeed. RON can lead to new candidates coming forward, either new people who didn't think to run or old hands who step in as needed.

And sometimes, no one really can be better than the alternative.

I agree. Sometimes, RON is the best option. ESPECIALLY if theres only one candidate.

If there's only one candidate, it's almost necessary, unless the delegate or the cabinet starts appointin' justices.

I really think that before we "expand" things we make sure that what we already have can be filled/kept filled. It will not help us to have 100 Cabinet seats yo fill and only 50 people to fill them.

Well, with the seemingly new policy of not allowin' people to hold deputy positions while holdin' other positions, I don't see that happenin'.

It's not really a "new" policy. We passed a Charter amendment a while ago, on the old forums, making deputies official parts of the Cabinet. There's a clause in the Code of Laws that prevents people from holding more than one Cabinet or Justice position. This is just the first time anybody has ever brought it up, and I think the first time a deputy from one Cabinet ministry has run in an election for a different Cabinet ministry.

Also, I guess it technically means you can't be a High Court Justice and a junior Cabinet member. It was never brought up during your election, but if we're going to be consistent now...

Though this is a discussion that should be split into a new thread.

As Bels has pointed out, this hasn't been brought up for a vote yet. Can someone draft it into something understandable so I can hold a vote on it?

As it stands, Article 1, Section 10 of the Code of Law can be updated, but I'm wholly lost on what Article 2, Section 11 and 12 we are discussing.

"10. All other elected offices Cabinet offices will be voted on separately and be elected by a plurality vote. Court Justices will be voted through a single ballot, with the three candidates who receive the most votes winning seats."

Article 1, Section 11 of the Code of Laws would be amended:

"11. In all elections an option to re-open nominations will be included. For non-judicial elections, if this option receives the most votes the nomination period for that office will be restarted."

An additional section - Article 1, Section 12 - would be added, with all other sections being renumbered appropriately:

"12. For Court Justice elections, if the option to Re-Open Nominations receives enough votes to be placed within the top three, then the nomination period will be restarted for all seats with lesser votes than this option. The candidates who receive the top votes will win however many seats are left to be filled."

Motion to vote.

@Unibot: I imagine Belschaft's opinion is that the proposal is pretty random, in that it's "themed," but our region isn't a themed region like Balder or Osiris.

I share that opinion, but more strongly, I still believe that we don't have nearly enough competitive elections for your suggested system to work.
This version has the ammended text and has been motioned and seconded.
